New on DVD – The Shape of Water and more

This week there are a number of Oscar-nominated films releasing on Blu-ray and DVD, including the Best Picture winner The Shape of Water. Check out this week’s new releases!

The Shape of Water – Mute janitor Eliza (Sally Hawkins) has few friends, other than her co-worker, Zelda (Octavia Spencer). They both work in a hidden, high-security government laboratory. She comes across an amphibious creature kept in a small tank of water and realizes the creature can not only communicate, but is intelligent and has emotions. They develop a relationship, but when she discovers the scientists plan to kill him in order to study him, she decides it’s time to help him escape. Call Me by Your Name – Teenager Elio Perlman (Timothée Chalamet) is spending the summer at his parents’ cliffside mansion on the Italian Riviera. When a charming American named Oliver (Armie Hammer) arrives to intern for Elio’s father (Michael Stuhlbarg), Elio develops feelings for Oliver, and is pleased when those feelings are returned.

I, Tonya – American figure skating champion Tonya Harding (Margot Robbie) is one of the best female figure skaters in the world. Just before the 1995 Winter Olympics, Tonya’s main competition, teammate Nancy Kerrigan, is viciously attacked by a masked assailant who hits her in the leg with a baton, in an attempt to break it. Suspicion falls on Tonya and she is questioned by the authorities.

Justice League – A malevolent ancient enemy — Steppenwolf (Ciarán Hinds) — sets his sights on Earth when he realizes Superman (Henry Cavill) no longer poses a threat. Bruce Wayne (Ben Affleck) vows to do all he can to fight off this powerful foe. He enlists help from Diana Prince (Gal Gadot) to find and recruit a team of metahumans, including Cyborg (Ray Fisher), Aquaman (Jason Momoa) and The Flash (Ezra Miller), to stand against this terrifying threat.

The Disaster Artist – This film is a behind-the-scenes look at the making of Tommy Wiseau’s The Room (2003), which starred Tommy (James Franco) and his best friend, actor Greg Sestero (Dave Franco). When he isn’t able to find an acting gig, Tommy decides to write, direct and star in his own movie, despite lacking talent in any of those areas. Click here to read our review.

LEGO DC Comics Super Heroes: The Flash – Barry Allen a.k.a. The Flash is having the worst day of his life as he wakes up to find out that not only has he lost his connection to the Speed Force, but that a furious Justice League member has kicked him off the team. The one responsible for wreaking havoc in his life is none other than the evil Reverse Flash, who’s decided to come back in time.
