New releases include Fantastic Four, The Gift and more

Fox’s reboot of Fantastic Four hits theatres this weekend as well as the anticipated thriller, The GiftCan either of these take down Mission: Impossible: Rogue Nation for top spot at the box office? –Greg Chisholm

It’s been ten years since we got our first look at the on-screen version of Marvel’s first superhero team and after years of speculation the Fantastic Four are back and re-booted for a new generation. Reed Richards (Miles Teller) builds a machine that allows you to travel to other dimensions. While in the other dimension something goes wrong and when Reed and his crew make it back home, they are forever changed.

When a young married couple (Jason Bateman and Rebecca Hall) run into an old acquaintance (Joel Edgerton), they extend a casual invitation for dinner which he accepts. Upon arriving he brings a gift and becomes closer to the couple. Soon after, the couple realize he is too close and must then deal with the repercussions of telling him to back off.

Ricki (Meryl Streep) is a world famous rock star and has been with her band Ricki and the Flash for several years. She made the decision to follow her career and let her family take a backseat to fame and stardom. While on tour she gets a call from her ex-husband (Kevin Kline) and learns that her estranged daughter is going through a tough time and Ricki must come home to make up for the lost personal times.

Dark Places tells the story of a woman named Libby Day  (Charlize Theron) who survived the brutal murder of her family as a child. A group of true-crime aficionados confront her and force her to recreate the events of that night and possibly discover the truth behind the brutal murders.

An aspiring actress Edith (Leah Goldstein) breaks up with her then-boyfriend to focus solely on her acting career. Diamond Tongues tells the story of the ex-boyfriend taking up acting on a whim and landing a starring role. Edith must learn to cope with the fact that her ex got a leading role and she has to discover what she needs to do to become successful.
