New releases this week – Paper Towns, Pixels and more

Ant-Man Paper Townstook over the box office this past week but will it continue to remain number one with two probable big hits opening Friday? Take a look at what opens in theatres today.

Aliens see clips of classic arcade games and believe it’s a declaration of war in Pixels. They come down to planet Earth to attack using the games as models for their various assaults. It is up to the President of the United States Will Cooper (Kevin James) to ask his childhood friend Sam (Adam Sandler), who is a video game nerd, for help.  Together, along with some retrogamers, they team up to defeat the aliens and save the planet. From the author who brought you The Fault In Our Stars comes Paper Towns, opening in wide release. This coming-of-age film tells the story of Quentin (Nat Wolff) and his childhood neighbor, the beautiful Margo (Cara Delevingne) for whom he still has feelings. After going on a late night road trip together, Margo suddenly disappears. As Quentin finds clues in regards to her disappearance, he begins to discover who Margo really is.  Click here for showtimes.

In SouthpawJake Gyllenhaal plays Billy Hope, a successful boxer who has everything. He’s won a title fight and lives in a mansion with his loving wife Maureen (Rachel McAdams) and their adorable daughter Leila. All that changes when Billy attends a charity event where a fellow boxer starts a fight. A member of Billy’s team pulls a gun to stop the fight but Maureen is accidentally shot and killed. Devastated, Billy needs to raise his daughter alone, but his funds are taken away and he ends up homeless. Things get worse when Leila is taken away by the court and Billy must fight to get her back. In Irrational Man, Abe Lucas (Joaquin Phoenix) is a philosophy professor who’s been hired at Braylen College, but he suffers from all kinds of problems, from dizziness to anxiety to drinking. That all starts to change when he meets student Jill (Emma Stone).  However, Jill is worried their relationship won’t last and that Abe’s turnaround is temporary. A companion piece to the 2012 documentary The Act Of Killing, The Look Of Silence tells the story of a family who survived the the 1965 Indonesian genocide as they discover their son was murdered.
