The new Star Wars movies will be partially filmed in England. When Disney Pictures purchased George Lucas’s Lucasfilm company in October 2012 for $4.05 billion, they announced the production of three new Star Wars films. Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy expressed her excitement on returning the film to its roots in a statement, saying, “We’ve devoted serious time and attention to revisiting the origins of Star Wars as inspiration for our process on the new movie, and I’m thrilled that returning to the U.K. for production and utilizing the incredible talent there can be a part of that.” All six previous Star Wars films have been filmed in part in the U.K. at studios such as Pinewood, Elstree and Shepperton. The upcoming film Star Wars: Episode VII, directed by J.J. Abrams, is set to release in 2015. Britain seems to have taken the news well, as their finance minister, George Osborne tweeted, “Great news for our creative industries. May the force be with us.” ~Rebecca Raveendran
