Nikki Blonsky heads to fat camp

Nikki Blonsky, who rose to fame as the lead in Hairspray, has landed a starring role in the new ABC Family television series Huge, about kids at a fat camp. “Most of the cast members are plus-size actors and actresses. “I don’t think there’s ever been a full cast of plus size people before,” she told  TheFrisky.com. “We look more like your neighbors or the people you go to school with, rather than the fake facades of what Hollywood has said everybody should look like. Nobody really looks like that, unless you have the means. Most of America doesn’t have the money to have a trainer 24/7 and a meal service to bring you meals, because if they did, we’d all be a size 2. And that would just be too perfect. Every single issue skinny people go through, plus-size people go through, too,” Blonsky said. “It’s our spirit that people will remember us for as time goes on and we grow older.”

i dont understand why people that are plus size care so much what others think of them. i dont see anything wrong with her, i dont understand why the world puts so much emphasis on being insanely, sickeningly skinny. life is about more than the size of someones body.

Mandee, it will always be an issue because of the influence of the media. It has conditioned us to believe that fat=repulsive, and that is why most people find it so intolerable. To ignore that simple fact and state “I dont understand” either means you have never had to deal with a serious weight issue, or you are blind to the way the majority of people in the world perceive and treat overweight people.

I know its not the best example, but go look up the Tyra Banks story when she goes into a fat suit. If you think weight isn’t an issue and plus size people overreact, try to explain away the people she encountered who laughed or stared at her.

i dont mean JUST plus size people, i think people that are skinny or “normal” size should have more tolerance and understand that its not always the persons fault that they are overweight. maybe some of it stems from their childhood, if youre fat when youre a child its probably basically impossible to change your habits once youve already grown into them. maybe some is emotional, maybe some is medical, theres a million reasons why someone could be overweight, and yes lack of money and time for a gym/personal trainer is also a reason. people need to realize that its not whats on the outside that counts, its the way a person acts and treats others thats important. i know what youre saying about people acting like little children and picking on grown adults because of their weight, i wonder how these individuals sleep at night. why torment someone over something that is none of your business? i just think people are disgusting in the way they emotionally hurt and scar others over stupid things. i could go on for hours about this.

Anonymously arguing on the internet is just like the special olympics- it doesn’t matter who wins or loses, you’re still retarded

“Rock hard abs” – Was anyone arguing? We are just sharing our thoughts.

Taking a jab at the mentally challenged is so very “big” of you.

I think the funniest part of your comment is that fact that you posted it – way to voluntarily place yourself in that category!
