The Oscar nominee list was released this morning at approximately 8:40 a.m. ET  by Family Guy creator and this year’s Oscar host, Seth MacFarlane, and actress Emma Stone. Many were expecting Kathryn Bigelow (Zero Dark Thirty), Tom Hooper (Les Misérables), Ben Affleck (Argo), and Steven Spielberg (Lincoln) to be nominated for Best Director. However, to everyone’s surprise, only Spielberg, who was left out of the Best Director nods at the BAFTAs, was named. Though Ben Affleck did not receive any Oscar nominations, he received Best Actor and Best Director BAFTA nominations.

Lincoln received the most Oscar nominations at 12, including Best Picture, Best Cinematography and Best Music (original score). Close behind with 11 nominations was Ang Lee‘s adaptation of the Yann Martel novel Life of Pi. The film received nominations for Best Director, Best Picture, Best Cinematography, Best Visual Effects and Best Adapted Screenplay. Another pleasant surprise was the nomination of Quvenzhané Wallis for her work in Beasts of the Southern Wild. At only nine, she’s the youngest ever to be nominated in the Best Actress category. Tune in Sunday February 24 at 7 p.m. ET to watch the live ceremony on the ABC network. ~Brittnee Fleming

Funny that even with an expanded number of Best Picture candidates, this may be the most pathetic line-up of Oscar nominees ever. Well done, Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences!

How did the Dark Knight Rises not get a nod? It was a dramatic story with quite a lot of depth to it (aside from being action/adventure).

It’s all bullshit propaganda once again. Zero Dark Thirty like c’mon everyone knows it was fake and now that’s it’s nominated before its release is just golden. Really dumb line up. more than half shouldn’t of been and more than some where not even reconsidered. This is why people think its rigged. After Avatar not winning of Hurt Locker it really got me thinking.

Not surprised THE DARK KNIGHT RISES didn’t get any love from the Academy, as it seems Christopher Nolan has replaced Martin Scorsese on their “We’re not ready to present you with an Oscar just yet” list. Of course, THE DARK KNIGHT RISES was the year’s best movie, but that’s not enough to win top prize or even be nominated.

Where are the acting noms for Zefron and Watson (the big winners in the People’s Choice Awards)?! This list serves only to demonstrate how out of touch Academy voters are with the public at large.

I’m surprised Shawn Penn is not nominated for actor in Gangster Squad. Also visual effects and cinematography and sound editing Dark Knight like hello??!!Also for sound Expendables rocked the theater then we forget about movie of the year and that easily could of been, “Avengers”, “Dark Knight Rises”, “The Hobbit”, “SkyFall”. I mean I could go on by telling you what deserves to be nominated etc. It’s a shame that the academy doesn’t know anything really about film and acting. It’s to bad really.

Suneagle, due to the fact that Gangster Squad got pushed back to a day after the nominees were announced and wasn’t given a limited release before the deadline, it was unlikely that even if Sean Penn was incredible he would have gotten a nomination THIS year. Next year who knows? Snepts, its unlikely that Emma or Zac would get nomantions since The Lucky One was terrible and Emma got outshined in Perks of Being A Wallflower by Logan Lerman and Ezra Miller. Besides, the oscars just dont go that way since they like serious actors in serious films more than rom com garbage.
