In a statement released this morning, producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson officially confirmed James Bond 25 is set to debut in April 2020.
But that’s not the only good news. Joining Daniel Craig, who returns as Bond in the upcoming film, are Rami Malek, Billy Magnussen, Ana de Armas and Lashana Lynch. Returning cast members include Ralph Fiennes, Ben Whishaw, Naomie Harris, Léa Seydoux and Jeffrey Wright.
Although fans have been given some plot details, producers didn’t unveil a title. Wilson said it wasn’t ready to be announced, adding that keeping it secret was “a tradition.”
The official plot summary reads: “Bond has left active service and is enjoying a tranquil life in Jamaica. His peace is short-lived when his old friend Felix Leiter from the CIA turns up asking for help. The mission to rescue a kidnapped scientist turns out to be far more treacherous than expected, leading Bond onto the trail of a mysterious villain armed with dangerous new technology.”
Filming locations include Jamaica, Norway, London, and Italy. “Bond is not on active service when we start the film, so he’s actually enjoying himself in Jamaica,” Broccoli said. “We consider Jamaica Bond’s spiritual home.”
As filming begins, the cast took part in a livestreaming event from Jamaica. Rami Malek, who couldn’t attend the official launch, sent a video message, giving some details about his role — the villain.
“I’m stuck here in New York in production but I’m very much looking forward to joining the whole cast and crew,” said the Egyptian-American actor, who is currently filming the TV show Mr. Robot.
Bond will again be called upon to save the world from a shadowy adversary.
