Patrick Dempsey leaving Grey’s Anatomy – or not?

Patrick Dempsey is quoted in Vanity Fair‘s Italian edition as saying that the upcoming season of Grey’s Anatomy is “gonna be my last…I do not know what’s going to happen to the other characters, but for me it’s done.” However, as soon as that news came out, Dempsey’s rep quickly called E! News to say that the actor isn’t definitely leaving the show, explaining: “He was referring to the fact that his contract is up at the end of next season and we have no idea what the future holds.” As for his co-star, Ellen Pompeo, she simply replied that she hasn’t been offered a contract yet for when the current one ends, so she can’t say for sure whether she’s returning to the show or not. “No one has asked us to come back after Season 8, so I couldn’t presume that I’m coming back … if I haven’t been invited,” she told TVLine recently. However, since Pompeo plays the title character, that would leave Grey’s Anatomy without a “Grey.” It was suggested at a Fancast.com Q&A last September that if Meredith exits the show, Chyler Leigh, who plays her half-sister Lexie, could step into her shoes. “I would totally take that on – if that were to be the case,” Chyler Leigh said in response. “I don’t know where Ellen is [with her thinking], but that would seem like the logical next step.”

Why did they have to kill off the gay guy, he was funny! McDreamy is just so whiney, let him go and be done with it.

Gray’s has been going down hill for a while now… private practice isn’t’ doing much better either. They should just quit while they’re ahead

Not a fan of the show but I like Dempsey, I liked the 80’s flicks, they were classics in their own rights. he’s had movie roles and i’m sure more are offered, it’s time for him to go a different way although this role will not be one endangering him of being typecast.

Maybe Patrick should be more careful of the statements he makes to press: he had quite a promissing career in the 80’s, but he couldn’t get a job for more than 20 years after that. His few leading roles in some lame romantic comedies does not a career guarantee, so, unless he has another contract that nobody knows about, he should be, if not smarter, at least more diplomatic.
Anybody else recalls David Carusso leaving NYPD Blues, or Rob Morrow Northen Exposure for careers in the movies? Took them a long time to get even a second chance on TV, and Patrick already got his second chance! No guarantee on a third…

It sounds like he’s leaving but his publicist doesn’t want him to sound like he’s not grateful for the boost the show gave his career. Grey’s was okay at first, personally, I got sick of it pretty fast and I can understand if the actors are tired of being in it. Most shows get boring after the first or second season and it’s no exception.
