James Bond is back in the news again. Well, is he ever out of the news? With the latest film in the series, Spectre, hitting theatres on November 6, talk is ramping up and this time it’s getting really interesting.
Is Daniel Craig finished with the franchise? He has said so. And if that is the case, who will be up next? If you ask Pierce Brosnan, he will tell you who won’t be getting one of the most iconic roles in Hollywood.
Speaking with the Press Association, he said: “Anything is possible for sure, but I think he’ll be male and he’ll be white. There’s wonderful black actors out there who could be James Bond, and there’s no reason why you cannot have a black James Bond … But a female James Bond, no, I think it has to be male. James Bond is a guy, he’s all male. His name is James, his name is James Bond.”
However, there are men who believe a female James Bond would be a wonderful idea. Earlier this year, British Labour Party politician Ed Miliband, after meeting lovely Gone Girl star Rosamund Pike, noted “she’d make a great Bond.”
If not Rosamund Pike, we think there is a big actress pool to choose from. How about Linda Hamilton, Cate Blanchett or Kate Beckinsale? Or Amber Heard? She might be a little on the young side, but she was tenacious, unyielding and hard as nails in 3 Days to Kill. All these women? They could kick some butt. What do you think? ~Sharon Salsberg

Daniel Craig gives his final performance as James Bond in No Time to Die, which gives fans a new outlook on the character plus plenty of gorgeous locales.

With Daniel Craig having filmed his last stint as James Bond in the soon-to-be-released No Time to Die, there’s been talk of having a woman play the role next.
If Brosnan is that threatened & concerned that a woman might be a better Bond than he was, maybe he should reassess his manhood. I think Charlize Theron would do a very good job at kicking butt to name just one – but there are several other female actors who would do just as good as any of the males have, if not better. Get your head out of the sand Brosnan – the world belongs to everybody now, not just one gender.
First, it was talk of a black James Bond. Now, it’s a female James Bond. My question is, what’s the point? James Bond is not only a character but a huge money making franchise. Leave it alone. I’m not against having black or female spies on the big screen. However, why can’t they create their own character? If you’re going to have, say, a female “super spy”, why not have the beginning of a new action franchise? Give her own name to the character. No matter, the producers of Bond will do what they feel is best. I would love to see Charlize Theron as a “action hero” of some sort. A few years ago, I loved Samuel L Jackson as Shaft. Now, if they decided to reboot “Shaft”, would they consider a white actor as Shaft? I don’t think so.
Ian Fleming did NOT create either a female James Bond or a black one.
Arthur Conan Doyle did NOT create a Pakistani Sherlock Homes.
J.K Rowling did NOT create a female, black or homosexual harry Potter.
Are you NOW getting it ???????????????????
It makes total sense not to cast a female in the role of “James Bond”. We are talking about “James Bond” a male character written by Ian Fleming. There’s a long history behind this character and changing the character’s gender changes everything. Why even bother naming that character James Bond if you plan to make such drastic changes? This is not to say you cannot have a female British agent. Absolutely do it. I would definitely watch it. Just let the female character stand on its own rather than trying to cash in on a name. Equality is great and it makes sense to encourage leading roles held by other genders and races, but history is in the past and cannot be changed. Change must be forward thinking. Otherwise all our iconic figures in history will slowly disappear.
And he’s absolutely right, and finally had the balls to say what every James Bond fan has been saying for ages. No, this is one property you cannot turn into a woman. And no that’s not an oppressive comment. This is aimed at you crazy feminists and SJW’s who constantly tell women and people how they should act and feel.
And besides, if you want a female james bond, just create a new movie. Be original for once. Have Scarlett Jo as a spy, she already is one in Avengers. However, I do think Idris Elba would be a wicked James Bond just based on his work from the Luther series.
i am a woman and even i say no to a female James Bond. He is called James Bond for a reason. I disagree with no black James Bond though. I would love a female super spy though. But a female James Bond no way.
Why not call her Jamie Bond! 🙂
Sorry this is carrying PC too far. James Bond as a character is MALE not FEMALE. Why should he be changed to a she? Makes you wonder how people like commentators on here who think that a woman should be James Bond if we suddenly decide to make Andrew Of Green Gables or Benjamin Jones’ Diary???
How about Rosie O’Donell
WDG said it all. Should the filmmaker’s not be concerned with preserving the most basic elements of Ian Fleming’s creation? If not, it’s not James Bond, so call it something else.
I felt the same way about the new Ghostbusters. Who requested an all female Ghostbusters? Not me. Oh, I think I just got it! “Bust”ers -> “Bust” + “hers”. Ghost bust hers!
What next? Make Lara Croft a guy? Larry Croft.
No female james bond, no female sherlock holmes, and no female doctor who.
Create your own iconic female characters ladies.
Aargh. I wish everyone who is trying to overhaul every iconic character would just stop. Changing genders doesn’t provide a fresh, new, edgy anything. It’s a substitute for a lack of originality.
“Bond. Jamie Bond.” Oh yeah: that sounds very menacing, very mysterious. Forget it. There are already candidates for a female agent. ScarJo, as has been suggested. Hayley Atwell (Agent Carter) is just superb in her character–not pandering, not giving an inch. One tough, single-minded woman. Charlize, of course, but NOT as Bond.
Comics notwithstanding, if the next Thor is female, much as I love the franchise, I’m not attending.
As that awful song repeats, ad nauseam, “Let it go”!
Ya I agree with him. The character is supposed to be male and has been like that for decades, so just keep it that way. Kinda pointless to change it. If they wanna create a female James Bond-type, they should just invent a new character. Maybe she can be James Bond’s long lost sister or something lol
I don’t think James Bond should be female – or black – or anything other than British white male. That’s the character, anyone else is fine, but just a different character, not James Bond.
Does that mean we will get to see “Bond Boys”…………………..I am of the opinion that women can do just as good a job, why not a woman Bond!!
It’s just stupid to change genders or races of people who are literary characters. Are we getting a female Harry Potter at some point too? They should just create a new character who’s a female and make her a spy. Create something new, don’t mess with a character who already exists.
Bond, James Bond. What else is there to say? Changing the gender just for the sake of it or to create some controversy will just do harm to the franchise. Leave Bond alone.
Angelina Jolie would make a perfect James Bond.
