princeinconcertGrammy award-winning musician Prince died today at his Paisley Park estate in Chanhassen, Minnesota, just days after he was hospitalized with flu-like symptoms. He was 57 years old.

Carver County sheriff Jim Olson said in a statement that they’d received an emergency call at 9:43 a.m. from the compound: “When deputies and medical personnel arrived, they found an unresponsive adult male in the elevator. First responders attempted to provide life-saving CPR, but were unable to revive the victim. He was pronounced deceased at 10:07 a.m.”

A cause of death has not yet been determined, but last week Prince’s plane made an emergency landing on April 15 when the singer became ill.

At the time, his reps said he had the flu, but the singer showed up the next night at a dance party in Paisley Park to let fans know he was okay.

Prior to that, he had cancelled two shows in Atlanta in early April due to sickness.

Prince, whose full name was Prince Rogers Nelson, won an Academy Award in 1985 for the score for the movie Purple Rain and a Golden Globe for Best Original Song for “Song of the Heart” from the motion picture Happy Feet. He also won seven Grammy Awards and sold over 100 million records during his career, which began with his self-titled debut album that featured the hit song “1999.”

Prince was not married at the time of his death and he leaves behind no children. His only son Gregory, from his first marriage, to Mayte Garcia, died just one week after his birth.

I’m stunned by this. I wonder what illness he had. Poor guy.

Sure hope an autopsy is done thoroughly. Saw 20\20 last wk where someone killed someone poisoning them w/ antifreeze which mimicked flu like symptoms in the deceased.

God bless Prince and give him his piece of Heaven for peace in Heaven. Hope a thorough autopsy is done to rule out foul play. Check for antifreeze in body as it mimicks flu like they said on 20/20

What a shock. He liked Canada (bought a home in Toronto, so I respect anyone who respects my country.)David Bowie and now Prince= There is one helluva band forming in heaven! He made a single colour way more popular than it should have been. So, this is what it sounds like, when doves cry…. RIP Purple Prince. Seriously,an Icon is gone.
