Rose McGowan slams Natalie Portman’s ‘offensive’ outfit

Natalie Portman at the Oscars Rose McGowan is not too pleased with Natalie Portman‘s Oscars outfit and she’s calling her out for it.

On Sunday night at the Oscars, Natalie wore a Dior gown covered with a gorgeous cape, which was embroidered with the names of those female filmmakers who were snubbed for Oscar Best Director nominations. Many admired the stand Natalie was taking.

However, Rose didn’t share the same sentiments. In a Facebook post, she slammed Natalie, saying: “The kind of protest that gets rave reviews from the mainstream media for its bravery. Brave? No, not by a long shot. More like an actress acting the part of someone who cares. As so many of them do.”

She continued: “I find Portman’s type of activism deeply offensive to those of us who actually do the work.” Rose accused Natalie of only working with two female directors over the course of her career. “Natalie, you have worked with two female directors in your very long career- one of them was you. You have a production company that has hired exactly one female director- you.”

Natalie’s company, Handsomecharlie Films, has produced seven films so far, with Natalie’s A Tale of Love and Darkness being the only female-directed film.

“What is it with actresses of your ilk? You ‘A-listers’ (🤮) could change the world if you’d take a stand instead of being the problem. Yes, you, Natalie. You are the problem. Lip service is the problem. Fake support of other women is the problem.”

“I am singling you out because you are the latest in a long line of actresses who are acting the part of a woman who cares about other women. Actresses who supposedly stand for women, but in reality do not do much at all. Of course women in the world will keep buying the perfumes you promote, the movies you make, and think they’re buying into who you are. But who are you?”

This is not the first time Natalie has showed support towards other female directors. Last year, when presenting the 2018 Golden Globes for Best Director, Natalie made headlines while announcing the nominees when she said, “And here are the all-male nominees.”

Natalie responded to Rose’s statement, saying: “I agree with Ms. McGowan that it is inaccurate to call me ‘brave’ for wearing a garment with women’s names on it. Brave is a term I more strongly associate with actions like those of the women who have been testifying against Harvey Weinstein the last few weeks, under incredible pressure.”

She went on to agree that she hasn’t worked on many films with female directors. “It is true I’ve only made a few films with women. In my long career, I’ve only gotten the chance to work with female directors a few times. I’ve made shorts, commercials, music videos and features with Marya Cohen, Mira Nair, Rebecca Zlotowski, Anna Rose Holmer, Sofia Coppola, Shirin Neshat and myself. Unfortunately, the unmade films I have tried to make are a ghost history.”

“I have had the experience a few times of helping get female directors hired on projects which they were then forced out of because of the conditions they faced at work,” Portman said. “So I want to say, I have tried, and I will keep trying. While I have not yet been successful, I am hopeful that we are stepping into a new day.”

This is coming from a has bin actress who hasn’t made anything significant or memorable in the last 10 years except slam others. Talk about not supporting female directors or women–look in the mirror biotch. I admire Natalie Portman and appreciate the statement she made with her dress. I’m sure her peer do as well.

I find it kind of ironic how Rose is being unsupportive of her fellow “sister’s” support of other women in the industry. ALL women need to support each other, no matter what field they choose to work in.

OMG, Rose stop tearing down other women. Atleast Natalie tried to make a stand. What did you do besides rant?

  4. Snepts • February 13, 2020 @ 10:31 AM

    Leave Natalie alone.

I understand that Rose McGowan is an extreme activist, but I ind that she is disrespectful to her fellow actresses. What has Rose McGowan done that is memorable since Charmed or since Conan in 2011 or Planet Terror in 2007. This is how Natalie Portman wanted to let her feelings be known about the lack of top females in her industry, so be it. Natalie Portman is a very good actress with multiple awards. Where are Rose McGowan’s awards???

I think Natalie’s method of protest by embroidering the names on her gown was done very tastefully, and it was only when asked about it that she commented. It’s not like she tattooed the names on her forehead or anything like that. Leave this refined actress alone, and when you, Rose McGowan have done something worthy of respect, we will then back you as well.

Rose talks about women’s rights and metoo etc yet she spews hate and is a bully to other actresses. Its makes me sick to see her behavior given a voice and a headline.

I support women who try to help women.

  12. Human • February 13, 2020 @ 11:57 AM

I support human beings who make good art.
At the same time, I do not care of what they have between their legs, nor what they like to do with it.
    Humankind, grow up, please.

    Rose who?

  14. cosmicclouds • February 13, 2020 @ 2:09 PM

I think both actresses are wonderful. I find it hard to read that a woman is tearing down another. We need to support each other. Woman or man. I think that we are all people and need to start equality on all levels. No matter what you do … best to support each other!

  15. Venesha • February 13, 2020 @ 2:15 PM

Rose is becoming a bully now and I’m so tired of it

  16. CDubya • February 13, 2020 @ 2:22 PM

Why can’t she (Natalie) be an activist for this? I don’t have Parkinsons, but I will run a 10k and raise money and awareness for it. And a fellow female actress putting down someone for doing it, seems wrong too. Is Rose (not at the ceremony BTW), sitting at home being a couch critic when she could be supporting this instead.

ROSE, ROSE, YOU ARE A THORNY ONE. i
GUESS YOU ARE JUST LONESOME AND WISH TO GET SOME ACTION VIA THE INTERNET OR FACEBOOK. LEAVE PEOPLE ALONE, ALL YOUR LIFE YOU HAVE BEEN COMPLAINING, GIVE IT A REST. IF YOU ARE MISERABLE, STAY HOME AND smoke UP, THAT WILL CALM YOU DOWN AND MEDITATE. YOU ARE SUCH A GROUCH.

I was always told that if you didn’t have anything nice to say don’t say anything at all.

  19. Marcella • February 14, 2020 @ 8:16 AM

I admire Natalie Portman . Hardly a.has been. Dont also be one of those people who think if your not a woman less than 30 that you cant be successful in Hollywood or anywhere else. Go do your thing Natalie. Every inch helps towards breaking that glass ceiling for women. Maybe one day well even have a woman President.. You are beautiful and I love watching your movies and even your commercials, you can be funny or serious drama, and top of your game even if one has a wrinkle or gray hair. Makes one a real person. Look at Jane Fonda. Still drop dead gorgeous, still able to do outstanding work.

  20. Terese • February 15, 2020 @ 11:13 AM

Marcella the other post was calling ROSE a has-been actress. Natalie has been acting since her youth, with no control over directors most of the time. She is classy, educated, articulate and trying. I loved her response. Diplomacy is perhaps a foreign concept to Rose McGowan.

  21. Jax • February 15, 2020 @ 1:19 PM

McGowan is an insane whack-job. She sits on her self-made victim throne and throws the harshest judgement and spits venom everywhere. You’d think she would’ve stopped after she bullied that poor woman into suicide, but no. She is utterly reprehensible.

  22. Deborah • February 15, 2020 @ 3:31 PM

Great response Natalie, keep on keeping on! You do make a difference! You come a cross as a intelligent, educated and graceful lady!Love your performances! 😊

  23. Mario Kohler • February 15, 2020 @ 5:38 PM

Rose you are Nothing!..in comparison to the Lovely Ms.Natalie Portman-please! jealous?

  24. Lubic • February 16, 2020 @ 12:08 AM

Good future belongs to classy woman like Natalie,Rose good luck to you

  25. Fuad • February 19, 2020 @ 12:50 PM

McGowan recently APOLOGIZED to Iran for the U.S. air strike that killed two of Iran’s most monstrous human rights abusers. McGowan has no sanity or decency left in her. Someone sign the commitment papers already. She is in urgent need of aggressive ECT treatment.
