Second Bachelor contestant commits suicide

Lex McAllister, who appeared in Season 14 of the ABC TV dating series The Bachelor, has died following an overdose of prescription pills.
But here’s what’s most shocking – this is the second contestant from the same season to commit suicide – her fellow contestant Gia Allemand, who came in third in Season 14 of The Bachelor, hanged herself at age 29 just over two years ago in New Orleans. Jake Pavelka, who was “the Bachelor” in Season 14, told People at the time, “I am in complete shock and devastated to hear the news about Gia. She was one of the sweetest people I have ever known. And a very dear friend. My heart goes out to her family during this very difficult time. We have lost an angel today.”
Lex, who also vied for Jake’s heart but was eliminated from the show the first week, texted a friend on Saturday that she was going to kill herself.
The friend called 911 and when paramedics arrived on scene, they were able to briefly revive Lex, but she wasn’t able to tell them “what kind of medication she took,” according to a police report. She was later put on life support, but it was removed three days at the family’s request when she went into a decline. Lex died at 2:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 16, 2016. She was 31 years old.
Jake wrote on Twitter: “Im so sad to hear about Alexa. Such a beautiful girl. My heart breaks for her family. Covering them in prayer during this rough time.”
An autopsy is scheduled to take place today.

Mocking their commitment to Love and talking of cancelling a show that inspires open hearts doesn’t help Mike. The road to Love is paved with souls knocked to the side, this show only brings it to an audience where normally it is a private affair. This could be where the series missteps.The Public Eye casts a strong gaze. Such a shame, but could it have happened anywhere?
Two young,beautiful ladies…so very sad.
Who knows why these women killed themselves. It could be anything that happened or was happening in their lives.
I think that anyone who is desperate enough to go on a show like this must have ZERO self esteem to begin with – and probably a higher than average degree of mental illness…then the rejection probably doesn’t help – plus the on line digs etc.. Sad.
It just goes to show you mental illness can strike anyone even beautiful young ladies.
A show like this depends on drama. So they look for people that when placed in certain situations that would provide this. I don’t think they are desperate, or “mentally ill” or have ZERO self esteem. They are people who are not perfect, that would place them in a demographic that every human on earth fits into. The show needs to provide some kind of aftercare for individuals that may not be able to cope as well as others at the end of the show. Contestants are not props to be left behind, but are essential to the success of the show even when the show is over. If god forbid this happens again the odds of the show continuing will most likely be nil.
The folks here who keep talking about “love”…love is not involved in any aspect of this odious show which plays up societal expectations (for women) that should have expired decades ago.
This show represents all that is wrong with reality television and popular culture in general.
And so long as folks keep watching this garbage it serves as a validation for a culture devoid of character.
I have a strong dislike for this type of show. It degrading to both the men or the women. A guy making out with 25 girls and 1 girl making out with 25 guys, how is this a good thing. this is so wrong on so many levels. Just because the show is staged in a beautiful location and mansions and they are travelling to beautiful sites wearing beautiful clothes and so on, this is nothing but porn. Shame on the TV stations that will do almost anything to make a buck.
Expectations of all contestants to fall in love with the person being put on offer over the course of a ridiculous few weeks is to blame. The premise of the show, the unrealistic expectations, the need for the contestants to be in competition with each other for a man’s or woman’s approval and play dirty right up to the inevitable humiliating public elimination should be a warning to all. Just boycott this destructive nonsense.
I think the women who go on this show must have very low self esteem to start with so the rejection they receive will be hard for them to take. Like beauty pageants…..they are beautiful on the outside but very insecure on the inside. Beauty is only skin deep, you need something other than the shallowness of physical beauty to be a rounded person. Such a shame, waste of a life.

all i can say is if the suicide was worth it good for them i hope it brings joy to them and they can reenter another contest up there in the big blue wonder (sic,sic sic) no i really mean sick sick sick
This is really sad news! They were both so beautiful but I think that there most of been a real emptiness inside, a hole in their soul that nothing could fill. To commit suicide is a desperate act. Something we do not know drove them to suicide. We all need to show respect for them and let them rest in peace.
I expect that most people who apply to be on this, and similar shows are not looking for “love” but for some form of fame, hoping it will lead to recognition, an acting or modelling career, or other openings. It would not surprise me in the slightest that the contestants are “sold” this as part of the process. These shows are about entertainment, and emotional manipulation, and humiliation for most of the contestants. They also manipulate the viewers. They are UN-Reality TV, and they take advantage of everyone on screen as well as those who watch it. They create illusions of intimacy, and that superficial elements like perfect clothes and make-up make people into “dreams”.
I can guess know why two people from this show chose to end their lives so early, but I do imagine being on this show could have amplified their unhappiness. Most “reality” shows script a lot of “drama” to amp the audience, and for non-professional “actors” this probably takes some toll on their sense of self. No one enjoys “failing” in front of millions of people, and with the meanness of social media these days, it is probably easy to become a target.
The only reason these shows exist is because they are very cheap to make, and draw large audiences, which pads advertising revenues. If you really are sad or sorry about these deaths, I suggest you stop feeding the beast, and watch TV shows with professional actors, who are trained not to take on the drama personally. These shows are exploitative.
I agree that shows like this are degrading. To not only be rejected by a suitor but to be rejected on a TV show has to be devastating and people who allow themselves to be subjected to public humiliation must not realize how humiliating this is. They’re probably made fun of for the rest of their lives. It’s sad that anyone thinks up shows like this and sad that anyone watches them. If you do, shame on you. Maybe it’s time to find something more productive to do.
Shut up !!! Two beautiful girls are gone . Stop looking for excuses and blaming. have some empathy for them and their families at this horrible time. may they rest in gods arms for eternity. This is a cruel world and I hope they enter into happiness.
First of all, Marilyn, there’s no reason to be rude and I think people should speak up, not shut up. There’s a reason two girls killed themselves after being on the show and a light should be shed on it before anymore girls lose their lives.
I think you have to be pretty close to the edge to permanently end your life because you felt jilted or humiliated. I have felt those feelings many times and didn’t kill myself over it.
If “The Bachelor” is actively looking for unstable people for their show, then shame on them. I hope they get investigated over this, but I don’t see that happening.
It is very sad these two people have taken their lives at such a young age !
I was someone who watched the show for the first few seasons but stopped when they duped people about the fact the bachelor was a farmer, or was rich yet the contestants were lied to and led to believe he was a regular person. (perhaps the same season.)
The only success from this show that I can recall was Krista and her fireman, who won and went on to marry and be parents. They also went on with regular lives and we never hear about them again; the way it should be. Their lives are no longer to be in the public eye! I am so sick with “reality” shows – they aren’t!! It only shows there are too many channels and only so many story lines before you,very seen it all.
I have actually taken myself off the grid! No TV. Cable channels are expensive and in order to get the good channels you have to buy packages with lots of channels you’d never watch.
Let’s not forget now that two people have lost their lives and their families will never be the same. They were never the same once their kids were picked to be on the show! Careful what you enter into. Too many times the pie in the sky is dangled in front of us and the consequences are not fully explained or hidden.
