Selena Gomez sued for plagiarism

By Tribute on April 30, 2012 | 14 Comments

Selena Gomez is facing legal troubles. The Disney teen queen is being named in a $1 million lawsuit for plagiarism by the independent rock band, Luce. The California rockers are suing the Love You Like a Love Song singer for copyright infringement saying her 2010 hit single, A Year Without Rain, features a chorus with a melody “virtually identical” to their 2005 song Buy a Dog. The song was co-written by Lindy Robbins and Tony Gad, and is the title track of her second studio album with her band, Selena Gomez and the Scene. Gomez, Gad and Robbins have all been named co-defendants in the lawsuit. Gomez, who has yet to release a statement on the situation, rose to fame on the Disney Channel comedy Wizards of Waverly Place, before breaking into the music industry. She’s currently linked to Canadian pop music superstar Justin Bieber. Check out both songs below: ~Kyle Sharp

Really? Come on now. I can probably find 10 other songs with similar chorus melodies.

yeah, actually, it does sound sorta familiar, but not as bad as gaga stealing madonnas

I don’t hear how it is that similar to be called “virtually identical”. There are only so many things one can do in music to be as original as possible, and then it is reinvention. The songs are not in the same genre either (which may or may not mean something, depending who you are). I think that this is just a cash grab.

Just a greedy money grab – although I do like the Luce song better.

What’s wrong with you guys. The tune of the choruses sound exactly the same! Who cares if it’s different genres. What are the chances that they both came up with that close of a melody? I say sue and get your money’s worth!

Yeah, it’s the same. As a supporter of music and the music industry as a whole. It should be looked into and dealt with. I liked Selena’s song, have it on my playlist.

A senior Japan Gymnastics Association (JGA) official said he was “almost positive” that Russia, one of the sport’s traditional superpowers, will take part in the October 7-16 event. The International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) ignored Russian-led calls to move the championships to Moscow after being assured Tokyo posed no radiation risks.
