Snoop Dogg changes his name to Snoop Lion

By Tribute on August 2, 2012 | 22 Comments

The rapper formerly known as Snoop Dogg has decided to go by the name Snoop Lion instead. This revelation comes after a trip to Jamaica, where he says he experienced a ‘rebirth’ while recording his latest album, Reincarnated. Adopting a new reggae style, Snoop, 40, was quoted as saying, “I have always said I was Bob Marley reincarnated. I have always been a Rastafari.” Born Calvin Cordozar Broadus, Jr., this would not be the first time his persona was renovated (he was previously known as Snoop Doggy Dogg), but does this mean the Snoop we know and love is gone forever? Not at all. This new name may bring with it a few changes, but Snoop reassures his fans, “I could never become Snoop Lion, if I wasn’t Snoop Dogg first.” ~Morgan Bates

Duh Eldon, it’s a celebrity news site, yeah it’s news. Anyway, I think it’s ridiculous. Snoop Lion. (Rolling my eyes).

Snoop Lion just doesn’t have the same ring to it…and you can’t just switch species like that…from dog to cat! He will always snoop doggy dogg in my books

Sounds like he just smoked a little too much of the good stuff in Jamaica

  5. Bob • August 2, 2012 @ 9:19 AM

He seriously needs to make up his mind and stop changing his name.

I agree with Spongebob.. Snoop Lion just doesn’t sound as great. Bad choice.

Seriously…you can’t just change your name to Snoop Lion when your career is almost over. Snoopy Doggy Dogg to Snoop Dogg is one thing..at least its still nearly the same. Soon he’s going to actually go by “The artist formerly known as Snoop” because no-one will be able to keep all of the names straight.

First Mos Def, now this. I just don’t get it. He probably just assumes that everybody is still going to recognize him from “Snoop” alone. Still, seems like a ridiculous career decision.

I think Snoop’s career is going down the drain so he needed a way to get his name back in the media.. literally. Haha. Bad idea though – seriously.

Prince does it often. Puff Daddy did it a few times. I guess why not. Soon, like Puff, he will just be Calvin, like Sean is lol. They come full circle.
