Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse: new box office champ

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-VerseSpider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is the new champ at the weekend box office. The animated film debuted with an impressive take of $120.5 million. Click here to read our review.

Last weekend’s top movie, The Little Mermaid starring Halle Bailey as Ariel, dropped a spot to second, earning an additional $40.6 million, for a two-week total of $186.2 million.

The horror film The Boogeyman, based on a short story by Stephen King, debuted in third place, taking in $12.3 million.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 moved a spot to fourth, taking in an extra $10.2 million for an outstanding five-week total of $322.7 million. Click here to read our review.

Rounding out the top five was Fast X starring Vin Diesel and Jason Momoa, which dropped three places this weekend. The lastest film in the Fast & Furious franchise earned an additional $9.2 million for a three-week total of $128.5 million. ~Alexandra Heilbron
