Spiral: From the Book of Saw retains top spot at box office

Spiral: From the Book of Saw movie posterWith no big movies releasing this past Friday, we saw Spiral: From the Book of Saw, starring Chris Rock and Samuel L. Jackson, remain in the top spot at the box office for the second weekend in a row. Last weekend it enjoyed the eighth largest three-day opening weekend since the re-opening of domestic theaters and this weekend, it earned an additional $4.6 million for a two-week total of $15.8 million.

Also retaining its spot from last weekend was director Guy Ritchie‘s action thriller Wrath of Man, starring Jason Statham. It earned an extra $2.9 million for a three-week domestic total of $18.8 million.

Those Who Wish Me Dead made its debut in theaters last weekend in third place and remained in the same position in its second weekend. Starring Angelina Jolie, the survival action thriller took in $1.8 million for a total of $5.5 million.

Jumping back up to fourth place after four consecutive weekends in fifth place was Disney’s Raya and the Last Dragon. The animated adventure brought in $1.7 million for a 12-week total of $48.3 million.

Climbing back up a spot to round out the top five was Warner Bros.’ Godzilla vs. Kong. Now in its eighth weekend in theaters, the monster mashup took in another $1.4 million, bringing its domestic total to $96.9 million — inching ever closer to the coveted $100 million milestone. ~Alexandra Heilbron
