Star Wars beats Thursday box office numbers

Star Wars: The Force Awakens
has already broken the records for Thursday openings. It earned $57 million from Thursday evening preview screenings, breaking the previous record set in 2011 by Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2, which grossed $43.5 million on its Thursday opening.
It also broke the all-time Thursday single day record, which interestingly was previously held by a Star Wars movie – Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith ($50 million).
Star Wars: The Force Awakens also holds the record for the Most Advanced Ticket Sales with over $100 million (previous record holder was The Dark Knight Rises with $55 million).
If it continues in this style, Star Wars: The Force Awakens is easily on track to beat the all-time highest grossing movie ever – Avatar – which earned $2,788 million at the worldwide box office and a domestic total gross of just over $749 million.
Star Wars: The Force Awakens brings back original cast members Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher, while introducing newcomers such as Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Adam Driver, Lupita Nyong’o, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson and Simon Pegg. Read our review by clicking here.
