Suri Cruise caught with adult-only candies

By Alexandra Heilbron on March 17, 2011 | 42 Comments

On a late night trip to New York City “all-desert diner” Serendipity, four-year-old Suri Cruise, one of the most adorable celebrity offspring ever, must have become bored. While her mom, Katie Holmes was talking with friends, the little girl reached out towards a toy and candy display, making a beeline for a box of Penis Gummies as you can see in the photo at left. Katie’s head was turned the other way as she was chatting and didn’t notice until it was too late that the paparazzi had gotten photographs of her daughter closely examining the box.

Suri must have been drawn to the bright colors on the packaging, which features colored drawings of  male genitalia. Below is a shot of Suri taken moments before, as she was reaching for the candy. When Katie finally realized what Suri had in her hand, she pursed her lips as if trying not to laugh before the candy was put back on the shelf.

  5. Carrie • March 17, 2011 @ 10:12 AM

    That is hilarious!!! I’am lmao.

  6. Karen • March 17, 2011 @ 11:47 AM

What …w2g….are you kidding me! She’s 4 …nothing funny or cute about this!!! either Katie is using her daughter to get pics and attention or she does not trust anyone to care for her daughter..to leave her at home ,instead of exposing her to this crap!Wake up Katie, you can do better than this!

  7. Clorinda • March 17, 2011 @ 12:04 PM

Yes, funny and do you realize it doesn’t have to be an adult store, San Fransico stores have ridiculous things like that on their shelves and they are in your average mall, if you have children you know they can embarass you or do the craziest things without any thought…

  8. Mike • March 17, 2011 @ 12:09 PM

Hey Karen, Suri is 4!!! Of course it’s cute!!! What do you want Katie to do…leave her at home and let a nanny raise her like most celebrities do? Suri is just being the curious kid she’s supposed to be and Katie is actually being a Mom!!! More than I can say about most people.

  9. mandee • March 17, 2011 @ 12:25 PM

Karen on March 17, 2011 11:47 AM most parents dont “leave her at home” when they have a child just because they are fearful of what the REAL world might contain. if we shield our children from everything in the world they will become serial killers, rapists, thieves and terrible people. would you rather they shelter suri and have her grow up and come along and murder one of your kids?!? 😛 lighten up!

  10. Terry • March 17, 2011 @ 12:29 PM

If you read the article, it says they went to an “ALL DESERT DINER”. You want them to leave her at home to go there, and not “expose” her to such a place???? Get a grip!! Why is the public so hell-bent on turning every issue into something horrid? Yes, Suri is only 4, and I’m quite sure she could have eaten those gummies without even a thought as to whether they were shaped like a penis or not……it wouldn’t even occur to her.

  11. A-nony-mouse • March 17, 2011 @ 12:42 PM

An all-desert diner does not even come close to “adult shop.” It’s amusing and it’s natural. Get over it!

  12. Mari • March 17, 2011 @ 1:33 PM

Suri obviously from many photos eats far too many sweets.
There is nothing cute about her being carried most of the time or the outfits she wears
including a soother in her mouth.
Katie should take some lessons on motherhood from Jessica Alba, Jennifer Garner, Victoria Beckham and many others. Their kids dress and have a normal life.
    Scientology is screwing up Suri.

  13. IJ • March 17, 2011 @ 1:52 PM

    I’m with “A-nony-mouse”; This is an ALL-DESSERT-DINER.
To those who over-reacted, wake up, read up, and grow up with your over-reactions.

And I’ll agree with Katie. Kids are attracted to bright colours. Do you think the kid has ever seen what is actually between a guys legs? I’m guessing and claiming “NO”.

This pic is funny, and cute.
It’s funny, because we “true and relatively mature” adults see the harmless humour in what happened.
The picture is cute, due to the innocent misunderstanding born out of the weird and relatively indecent crap on the shelves in the US.

At the risk of seemingly over-reacting. Candies such as these “Penis-Gummies” should be in something like a “Mature or Adult Candy section” of such an establishment.
Maybe the item’s placement was an over-sight, by an employee there? [shrug] I’m likely to never know.

However the Pap’zzi should not over-play this. But the picture will sell lots of fish-wrappers all over the place.

  14. Age A • March 17, 2011 @ 1:55 PM

It’s candy, people…get over it & get a life…why say anything about someone spending time with their child…as long as there is no danger to harm the child…so what?! If they leave her at home they suck as parents…they take her out and there is complaint…it seems they just won’t win…she looks happy and healthy & to me that is what counts…not the fact that a 4 yr old reached out for a colorful pack of candy…no matter what is inside…grow up!

  15. Anne • March 17, 2011 @ 2:56 PM

She reached for candies and picked a coloured box. I remember going to the grocery store with my mother and telling her I wanted the box with the pretty lady. I did not know that it was a box of sanitary pads. It was an innocent incident. This is another cheap attempt to smear a celebrity.

  16. BEMerry • March 17, 2011 @ 3:42 PM

okay Im just wondering why nobody but IJ noticed the spelling of *dessert*

  17. Rod • March 17, 2011 @ 4:01 PM

Takes after her father – eh!

    KIDDING

  18. ss • March 17, 2011 @ 4:29 PM

At least we can prove that celebrities are like regular everyday parents too. They are subject to the same awkward, funny situations we are.

  19. gail • March 17, 2011 @ 4:49 PM

sooo funny… let’s let the innocent stay innocent shall we people, and instead of condeming and ridiculing the parents, relax, have a laugh & say glad it wasn’t me..

  20. Mike McGee • March 17, 2011 @ 4:55 PM

It,s tough parenting at times yet imagine doing so under the camera, Katie is “Good People” and kids
do reach out for things in stores. Issue should be
the marketing of a product identified as “Penis Candy” and how the Protection Staff allowed Suri
to obtain or ?, be given this product for the purpose of a picture. One can only imagine how Dad/Tom felt when he heard or saw the picture.

  21. ernybear • March 17, 2011 @ 4:56 PM

This is funny and it’s a natural thing… you can’t protect your kids from everything and she’s at the age where it will go over her head anyway… clearly she liked the packaging and was excited about the candy but the one thing I don’t agree with in this article is and I quote, “[she] is one of the most adorable celebrity offspring ever” Uh no she is not! sorry but… she’s just a regular kid who happens to have famous parents who are filthy rich.

RELAX people. I agree with Gail.

  22. Christina • March 17, 2011 @ 4:59 PM

The fact that Suri actually grabbed a boxed filled with penis shapped candies out of EVERYTHING she could have possibly got her hands on is quite amusing. If it was my daughter, I would laugh and put it back – but could that be because I actually have a sense of humour? We cannot just leave our kids at home, sheltering them from the real world. Those are the kids that end up growing up with mental disibilities like psychopathy and such. We all want our kids to trust us and be a HUGE part of our lives right? How are we supposed to do that if we leave them at home and let the nanny raise them? That is not how a child should be raised, children have parents for a reason! Things happen and children will embarrass us at least once while they are children .. and even when they’re older lol. But the fact of the matter is, there is no possible way we can shelter our children. They are always watching television, looking at magazines, etc. and guess what? Sex sells, so it is all over the place, no matter where you are. Ultimately, it was only a matter of time before Suri did something along these lines. So stop hating, your kids probably have or will do something like this too!

  23. Susan • March 17, 2011 @ 5:23 PM

Why is it so funny? Its just a candy its the same as a candy shaped like a foot or a soother. I’d eat them up!

  24. Glenn • March 17, 2011 @ 5:44 PM

Some people are so negative, they try to see things in the wrong light.Lighten up,you,ll enjoy life more!!

  25. Lorne • March 17, 2011 @ 5:51 PM

She was holding them for Tom.

  26. Jamie • March 17, 2011 @ 6:15 PM

So it’s a penis. It is obscene? Is it perverted? Is there any abuse? Do most of you adults still use words like wee-wee or pee-pee? Grow up you bunch of prudes. My step daughter was taught to use the proper words for penis and vagina. It is nothing to be shameful about. And if she did see such candies. I’d simply say that some people found it funny. Which is the truth. End of story.

  27. real • March 17, 2011 @ 7:13 PM

karen i don t know how old you are but please get a life

  28. Verna • March 17, 2011 @ 8:17 PM

    @real – what you said!!!

this is just funny and if your kid did it you’d probably put it on your facebook page (depending on your friends/family, of course!)

thanks to Suri for my laugh of the day!!

  29. Nancy • March 17, 2011 @ 8:28 PM

If any of you have ever been to Serendipity you would know it is a family eatery. Why they would have a box of penis candies, I don’t know but it is a family eatery known for their Frozen Hot Chocolate.

  30. mandee • March 17, 2011 @ 8:37 PM

Mari on March 17, 2011 1:33 PM you raise your children how you choose to and let others raise theirs the way they see fit. if you were followed by paparazzi all the time im sure you would dress your child according to what you would want other people to see them wear, im sure you would also carry your child if you were rich and famous for fear of someone else stealing them or scarring them for life. you are not katie holmes or tom cruise, therefore you have no business deciding how they will raise their child.

IJ on March 17, 2011 1:52 PM i like you.

BEMerry on March 17, 2011 3:42 PM i did but i always get that and desert mixed up, so i thought maybe i was the confused one lmfao.

  31. Clyde • March 17, 2011 @ 9:07 PM

she must have got them for Daddy Dearest. Must have seen them before and new Daddy liked them..Hmmmm

  32. Lady Mills • March 17, 2011 @ 9:29 PM

Now that the paparazzi has photo’s to boot. But hey Katie’s the Mom, and so what can I say, really? :S

  33. Kathleen • March 17, 2011 @ 9:32 PM

Some wild and crazy comments going on here!! What a laugh! She’s too Innocent! Really BIG story, huh? Got a lot of hits! I agree with most of the comments referring to “lightinging up” and the fact that she was attracted to the box, over the design of what was in it. Like she’d know what they were shaped like–who knows?!! What’s Daddy doing around her–a few naked baths maybe? LOL

  34. mfh • March 17, 2011 @ 10:57 PM

    What a riot.

  35. Anonymous • March 18, 2011 @ 5:21 AM

    //don’t sue me

  36. ruben • March 18, 2011 @ 11:47 AM

Clyde … you took the thought from my mind!! just funny … i want some too!

  37. kim ryckman • March 18, 2011 @ 1:40 PM

This is so funny. But somebody will say something bad about Suri and mom. She is little and when kids see candy or anything they can get there hands on. They will grab it. My son would grab anything in his reach. When he was in my arms or in stroller. Bright colors they love. just glad that she didn’t open the candy’s and try one. Kids will be kids.

  38. Thibz • March 19, 2011 @ 10:35 AM

This is funny. People are seriously over reacting to this. Would you honestly not tell your child how babies are made if they asked at a young age. Children are not stupid and if there properly educated on the matter then what is the problem….

  39. David Cowen • March 20, 2011 @ 5:22 PM

What a stupid thing to report on. Who cares. And you are being more immature then she probably was about it.

  40. Sweety • March 22, 2011 @ 1:11 PM
