The Hunger Games: Catching Fire holds top spot at weekend box office

Continuing to smash competition was The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, which once again earned the top spot at the weekend box office. The sequel, starring Josh Hutcherson, Jennifer Lawrence and Liam Hemsworth, earned an additional $74.5 million, bringing the total gross to an impressive $296.56 million. The film also earned a Tribute rating of 3.7 stars. Debuting at number two was Disney’s animated musical Frozen, starring Kristen Bell, Idina Menzel and Jonathan Groff. The film, which opened last Wednesday, earned $66.71 million and a high Tribute rating of 4.51 stars. Dropping to third was Marvel’s Thor: The Dark World, which generated $11.11 million and earned a Tribute rating of 4.1 stars. This
superhero sequel has a total gross of $186.71 million. In its third week running, The Best Man Holiday garnered $8.49 million, dropping the film to fourth place. Starring Morris Chestnut and Taye Diggs, the movie received a high Tribute rating of 4.4 stars. Round out the top five was the crime thriller Homefront, starring Jason Statham and James Franco. The film earned $6.97 million and a Tribute rating of 4.2 stars.

Included in the top ten were Delivery Man, The Book Thief, Black Nativity, Philomena and Last Vegas. ~Brie Davis

    Really good movie, it deserves it. Much better than the first one, which I didn’t like, although I liked Jennifer Lawrence in it, so I decided to check this one out. No kids killing each other, it’s more about adults trying to stand up against the government, which I can totally relate to.
