With no new releases this past weekend, the action thriller The Marksman, starring Liam Neeson, repeated as the top film at the box office. The Open Road/Briarcliff production held steady with just a 37 percent drop from last weekend for a haul of $2 million. The film’s 10-day total now stands at $6.1 million.
After finishing a close third last weekend, Universal Pictures and DreamWorks Animation’s The Croods: A New Age rose up to take second place. With no new family offerings to challenge the animated sequel, it held on strong with just a minuscule 10 percent drop for a weekend haul of $1.8 million. The film’s 61-day total now stands at just over $41.8 million.
Dropping to third place was Warner Bros.’ Wonder Woman 1984. The comic book film sequel, starring Gal Gadot and Chris Pine, saw a slight 30 percent drop from the previous weekend for a $1.6 million gross this past weekend. The film’s 31-day total now stands at just over $37.7 million. With the film leaving HBO Max after Sunday, its box office figures may hold steady in the coming weeks.
The live-action adaptation of the video game series Monster Hunter starring Milla Jovovich rose one spot to fourth place, earning another $820,000. Its 38-day domestic total now stands at $10.2 million.
Rounding out the top five was Universal Pictures’ News of the World. The Tom Hanks action drama fell one spot from last weekend, earning an estimated $810,000, which brings its 31-day gross to $9.7 million. ~Paolo Maquiraya
