New movies ruled at the box office during a weekend that turned out to be record breaking. For the first time in over three years, four new movies earned more than $20 million each. With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, the romantic drama The Vow, starring Channing Tatum and Rachel McAdams, earned an incredible $41.7 million  (all figures U.S.), topping the weekend box office and getting 4 out of 5 stars at Tribute.ca. Following closely behind was the Denzel Washington/Ryan Reynolds action thriller Safe House with $39.3 million and 4.25 stars from Tribute.ca viewers. The 3D childrens’ adventure Journey 2: The Mysterious Island earned $27.6 million, more than its predecessor, which opened to $21 million in 2008. In fourth place was the 3D re-release of Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace, which took in $23 million but received only 2.75 stars from Tribute.ca viewers. Rounding out the top five was last weekend’s top movie — Chronicle, which earned an additional $12.3 million.
