Tom Cruise to play Van Helsing

Lincoln won’t be the only Abraham hunting vampires in theaters. Tom Cruise is in talks to play Dracula’s arch-nemesis, Abraham van Helsing in an upcoming film about the crossbow-wielding vampire hunter. The film will be produced by writing super-duo Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci who recently wrote the sequel to Star Trek and have been tapped to take over the Amazing Spider-Man sequel as well.

If the project sounds familiar, that’s because it is. Hugh Jackman starred in a loose adaptation of the character for 2004’s Van Helsing. While commercially successful, the movie was widely panned by critics. This isn’t the first time Cruise has been cast in the role — he was previously attached to a film that Guillermo del Toro was set to produce but it ultimately never materialized. This would be Cruise’s first vampire-themed role since his turn as villain Lestat in 1994’s Interview with a Vampire. ~Kyle Sharp

Hugh Jackman’s version was a fluff piece. Let’s hope this one’s a little more serious,

Need to get Hugh Jackman back into the movie again, The version with Hugh Jackman was great. Why not just continue with that 1st movie into another sequal??????

They need to make more vampire themed movies, starting with one similar to Interview with a Vampire.

Although the movie wasn’t the best, Hugh Jackman was a hunk as Van Helsing. But moreso, I was absolutely entertained by Richard Roxburgh as Dracula- totally loved him. And let’s not forget David Wenham as the monk – they both had me laughing. Too bad they can’t remake this one with the same cast but with a better storyline and directing. I think the same cast could possibly pull it off.

And yet another literary figure to be ruined. Go back to your home planet already!

Hugh Jackman should be in this movie. I’m not a fan of Tom Cruise.

Im glad there is more real vampire movies coming out. Theyve gotten a bad rap because of Twilight, and now with Dark Shadows, Ambraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter, and this, maybe they can redeem themselves after THAT catastrophe. I havent seen the original, but hopefully this will be good.

WHY? Why is he doing a movie that has already fairly recently been done. And who is going to believe him as Van Helsing. This is NOT Mission Impossible 14, which he is now the proud founding father of the production. I think Mr. Cruise needs to dig a little deeper. He was a big star once you know?!
