Twilight author Stephenie Meyer has signed on to produce the indie romantic comedy Austenland, starring Keri Russell, based on a book by Shannon Hale. Though Meyer has been a producer on the Twilight movies, this will be her first time working on a film not based on one of her books. Jerusha Hess, who co-wrote Napoleon Dynamite and Nacho Libre with her director husband, Jared Hess, will make her feature directorial debut on the movie. According to the Hollywood Reporter, Meyer will be producing and financing the pic though her Fickle Fish Films banner. The movie is about a woman who’s obsessed with Mr. Darcy, the romantic lead of the TV adaptation of Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice. The obsession ruins her love life because no real man can compare, so she decides to spend her life savings on a trip to an English resort catering to Jane Austen-crazed women. It begins shooting this week in England.

I’m looking forward to seeing ‘Austenland.’ It sounds like it will be a fun, sweet movie. I think the industry needs to create more light-hearted entertainment to be enjoyed like that.
This does sound funny!
