Newcomer Venom dominated the weekend box office and scared away the competition to earn $80 million in its first week — $20 million more than predicted, as well as breaking the previous October opening record (held by Gravity in 2013) by more than $20 million. This action thriller stars Tom Hardy as an investigative reporter who develops superpowers after his body is taken over by a mysterious beast named Venom.
Another new film debuted in the top five — A Star is Born, starring Bradley Cooper as a fading musician who discovers the incredible talent that nightclub singer Ally (Lady Gaga) has to offer the world. The drama earned $41.3 million in second place.
The animated film Smallfoot, starring the voice of Channing Tatum, dropped one spot to second place and brought in an additional $14.9 million for a domestic total of $42.8 million in its second week.
Kevin Hart and Tiffany Haddish star in the comedy Night School, which dropped a few spots to land at fourth in its second week. The film earned an additional $12.3 million at the box office to bring its total earnings to $46.8 million.
Rounding out the list was The House with a Clock in its Walls, which continues to dazzle audiences everywhere. The fantasy adventure film, starring Jack Black, took in $7.3 million for a domestic total of $55 million in its third week.

There are a number of new movies opening this weekend, including the futuristic Civil War. Check them out to decide what you want to see at the movies.
it may have opened greater than expected but it will take a big downturn because it is not that good. I liked the banter between Hardy and the symbiote but the movie lacked a true villian and R rated aspects which could of made it great. Hopefully it can pull in enough money at the box office to make an Trilogy that will hopefully be better and get Spider-man crossover involved. Really could of been a gem like Deadpool……..oh well.
