Warner Bros. breaks industry record

Jeff Robinov, President of Warner Bros. Pictures Group, announced that the studio has broken the all-time industry worldwide box office record with a gross of $4.814 billion in 2010, surpassing the prior record of $4.01 billion (set by Warner Bros. in 2009). Movies such as Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1, Sherlock Holmes, Valentine’s Day, Clash of the Titans, Sex and the City 2, Inception and Due Date all broke the $100 million mark in box office sales worldwide. Harry Potter, which earned the most of these seven films at $611 million, is still being shown in theaters. “We are so proud of these incredible accomplishments, which were made possible through the global efforts of an exceptional group of people who collaborated to create, produce, market, and distribute more than two dozen films this past year,” Robinov said in a press release. “I applaud everyone who contributed to this year’s record-breaking success.” Some of Warner Bros. upcoming 2011 releases include the following sequels: The Hangover 2, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 and Sherlock Holmes II.
