Who will be cast in The Bodyguard remake?

By Alexandra Heilbron on February 25, 2011 | 26 Comments

Warner Bros. is remaking its 1992 hit The Bodyguard, which starred Kevin Costner as Whitney Houston’s bodyguard and grossed  $411 million worldwide. The original story was about a Secret Service agent who falls in live with a singer whom he’s been hired to protect from a stalker. In the new version, the bodyguard will be an Iraq war veteran straight out of the Army. Twitter, Google Maps and TMZ make his job extremely difficult, as the public has more access to celebrities than ever before.

The lead roles have not yet been cast, and though Beyoncé is considered a shoo-in for the singer, it’s believed she won’t take it on, because she’s already committed to the remake of A Star is Born, directed by Clint Eastwood.

Rihanna is being considered, as are Miley Cyrus and Taylor Swift, but we’re hoping Rashida Jones will be thrown into the mix. She has more acting experience and as the daughter of Quincy Jones, she has the singing ability to pull the role off as well.

Although there’s been no mention of who might take on the lead male role, we’re thinking Channing Tatum.

What do you think? Who would you like to see in this movie? [poll=259]

Mandy Moore, she would be good sings, acts, and attractive or
Caroline from Vampire Diaries (not sure of her real name) she is a good singer and can act as well as very pretty.

They should cast Kevin Costner and Whitney Houston in the remake. I need a good laugh.

    – William Shatner and Betty White
    – Charlie Sheen and the Cocaine Badger (from It’s All Gone Pete Tong)

Seeing the possible cast list made me disgusted to my stomach, Miley Cyrus already had real life men come after her because of her own sexual pride and antics(similar to The Bodyguard from the original)so need to cast her when she already made life for herself bigger than it should be. Taylor Swift will just make everyone feel sorry for and she’ll more than likely flash her eyes numerous times making men(older than her)want her even more. As for Rihanna, well people will wonder why she took on the role, did she do it to prove she’s strong or she still needs protecting? All 3 of these women have something in common, they ego’s(image) are far greater to the world than their music is, and to top it off, we’re already watching them as if their lives were movie whom they are always having security protect from people who shouldn’t be anywhere near them. Rashida Jones would seem like the most presentable form as an actress to take on a role that would allow the audience to feel a connection to the movie(story), knowing that her real life doesn’t have anything to do with the movie itself. And her age has more depth than the other 3 artists who will more than likely push the envelope to make themselves bigger than the movie itself. That’s not my opinion, it’s a fact that’s proven day in and day out in the media’s around the world, be it here on Tribute or msn or yahoo or TMZ or anywhere for that matter.

The remake needs a mature woman and a mature male for the lead roles. Candice Accola from Vampire Diaries is a bit young, but she does have a really good voice at 23. I would’ve thought Christina Aguilera would be considered for a serious role or even Mandy Moore who has a good track record for appropriate acting which audiences can feel pulled into without feeling sexualized by the actress at hand. Take Wentworth Miller from Prison Break, he’d be great. If they went with a young female lead, I would think Zac Efron would be a good male lead for the bodyguard, he’s taken on a serious side in his acting an has the “pull” to get audiences to believe in the depth of his character. It’s hard to say whether the movie will be strongly in favour of the bodyguard or the singer. Costner was more the star eye-candy than Houston was.

NYTOC you are an ignorant knob…Miley should be cast in the lead because 1) she is the cutest female on the earth 2) she is extremely talented 3) she has an enormous legion of fans around the world 4) she is fun, interesting and can both sing and act

No, no, no, no. Please stop remaking these movies. Do something original. The Bodyguard was actually good. Don’t mess with it. Stop wasting our time & the money of those idiots that would go see something like this.

    How about a role reversal?
Justin Bieber and Betty White. I’d go see it.

Come on NYTOC get it together. we all know miley cyrus is perfect for the part bcuz of her huge 12 year old fanbase, bcuz u know the original was geared towards 12 yr olds *sigh*. all sarcasm aside i think Tom Hardy should play the male lead. Honestly cant think of anybody for the female part, id have to think about that.

  15. nobody important • February 26, 2011 @ 9:25 PM

Give it a brokeback mountain theme.

  16. Ash • February 26, 2011 @ 9:47 PM

Oh to bad I think beyonce would be great for the part

  17. SarahP • February 27, 2011 @ 12:56 PM

i’m with nobody – Justin Timberlake and Colin Ferrel

  18. Hugh Hefner • February 27, 2011 @ 8:51 PM

    Miley’s a skank!

  19. nobody important • February 28, 2011 @ 2:43 AM

Michael Clarke Duncan and Tom Hanks

  20. Danielle • February 28, 2011 @ 1:56 PM

kojak….what are you 12? If they want to do a good remake then need to pick serious actors! Miley is a joke. She can’t act and her singing is okay at best! And most of the others mentioned have no acting experience. I would hate to see them put out a flop of a remake!! If your not gonna do it right don’t do it!

For female leads I still think Mandy Moore or Caroline from Vampire Dairies. Both would do an excellent job. Their youth would appeal to all and give it a more modern touch as so many of the big stars now are young themselves.

As for the male…..maybe Sam Worthington? Zac Efron? Jake Gylenhal?

Why even bother remaking this movie??????

  22. C-Dub • February 28, 2011 @ 7:41 PM

    Who cares.
If I had to say, I’d pick that guy with the hair and that chick who can try and sing.

  23. Panda • March 2, 2011 @ 6:25 PM

Hmm.. there’s a wealth of good singing actresses but this is a role for more maturity than Miley or Taylor.

    Some good female choices:
    Helena Bonham-Carter
    Queen Latifah
    Gwyneth Paltrow
    Catherine Zeta Jones
    Renee Zellweger
    Kiera Knightly

Though I wish they’d just come up with an original idea instead.

  24. Tai • March 2, 2011 @ 10:37 PM

I say to choose a whole new cast! IMHO neither Taylor Swift or Miley Cyrus can compete to what Whitney Houston brought to the table. Why in the world would those two whiny chicks be considered?!?!

  25. Andrea • March 2, 2011 @ 11:59 PM

Miley Cyrus’ career is done. I vote for Mandy Moore or Rashida Jones. And definitely Channing Tatum!!!!

  26. don't need to know • April 26, 2011 @ 11:32 PM

    Mary J. Blige!!!!!!!!!!!!
