A prequel and sequels dominated the top four spots at the weekend box office. X-Men: First Class raked in $56 million (all figures U.S.), and though less than estimated, it was reportedly high enough to make studio bosses pleased with the results. Tribute viewers rated it highly, with 4.4 out of 5 stars. Last weekend’s top movie, The Hangover Part II, (3.3 stars) dropped a spot to second place with an additional $32.4 million. The animated sequel Kung Fu Panda 2 came in third with $24.3 million, rating 4 stars at Tribute.ca. Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides earned an additional $18 million and a 4 star rating from Tribute viewers. Bridesmaids rounding out the top five with $12.1 million and 3.7 stars.

I like some super-hero movies and they are mostly a lot of fun but I’d like to see a change in the summer blockbuster formula. Super 8 looks like a good original idea although a buit Spielbergesque, it might be something different. In the last few years, Hollywood depends too much on those mega special FX, super-hero movied that follow the same basic formula.

It’s time to bring back the old cop movies with realistic car chases and a plot that allows you to think and not only enjoy the nice flashing lights.

here here. And I really hope an original movie like Super 8 (let’s hope its pretty original) will do well.
