Zach Galifianakis takes formerly homeless friend to premiere

By Tribute on May 23, 2013 | 3 Comments

Zach Galifianakis brought an unusual date to the The Hangover Part III premiere on Monday night: 87-year-old Elizabeth “Mimi” Haist. Haist is Galifianakis’ friend of almost 20 years. He met her in 1994 at a laundromat in Los Angeles, where she folded laundry for tips. After a while, he lost touch with her, only to find out two years ago that she was homeless. Fortunately, nice-guy Galifianakis was able to track down his old friend. He set her up in an apartment, which he pays for, and got Renée Zellweger to help as well – she apparently furnished the place and keeps it full of food. Galifianakis also likes to take Mimi to premieres with him. She told TMZ that, before Monday’s event, she’d previously attended the premieres of The Hangover Part II (pictured) and The Campaign. Haist also admitted to the New York Daily News, “It’s fun, not something I’ve ever dreamed I’d experience. The limo takes me home afterwards.” You can catch The Hangover Part III on the big screen starting tomorrow. ~ Cassie Jasinski

I would like the nice part of me so say, ‘aw, isn’t that sweet of him’. But what I am really thinking is, that is just frickin weird.

I think it’s sweet. Good for him! And for Renee Zellweger.

Good guy. And good for Renee. Really this is the kind of good story you want to hear once in a while. If it’s been happening for long time, they clearly didn’t alert the media ‘hey look what I’m doing’…it’s a story someone noticed was happening and inquired about why an 87yr old was with Zack. I liked this one.
