Isaiah Washington gets gay support

Isaiah WashingtonIsaiah Washington, who was recently fired from the cast of Grey’s Anatomy, has a prominent lesbian and gay activist on his side. Jasmyne Cannick says he shouldn’t have been penalized for using a homophobic remark in referring to co-star T.R. Knight, so she’s launched a petition to get the actor his job back. She says his firing “further adds to a disturbing new trend at ABC wherein minority actors have been dismissed at an alarming rate over the past two years… While we don’t approve of [Washington’s] use of the F-word at the Golden Globes, Washington has since apologized and gone on to perform community service…. Isaiah has done more for the gay and lesbian community than T.R. Knight did in or out of the closet. He did what they asked him to do, and now they want to make sure he will never work again. At what point is enough enough?”

I LOVE THIS SHOW AND I LOVE THE WAY ISAIAH PLAYED THE CHARACTER. I UNDERSTAND WHAT HE DID WAS NOT POLITICALLY CORRECT, BUT HE HAS DONE ENOUGH FOR THE COMMUNITY.

Comments like his are made every day, and they aren’t always said with meaning. Mostly out of anger, or lack of better words. He helped make the show what it is, and deserves to be recognized for the good he’s done. Its sad that people immediately judge based on simple actions. Some people work so hard their whole lives to make a difference, and then just like that, something so stupid and small can ruin them. It’s not fair.

Personally, I don’t care about his private life but I hated his character on the show. So arrogant. Glad to see him go.

I agree with RC about his comment and i believe it was mistake. when people are working long hours, depressed or stressed out they sometime get into fights with people around them. same is what happend with I.Washington and even though im gay i still am on his side. i hear the word “fa**ot” atleast 4 times a day and the only difference is that his got out on nationl tv. he plays that character so well we NEED BURKE BACK!!

I agree that we all say things out of anger, things which we can try to take back but can’t. But if you are in the spotlight and your words are on camera you are soooo busted. Think Michael Richards. We all have our off days, just not all of ours is on camera. Thank your lucky stars for that!!!
    Cut the man some slack!

The man made his ammends. Why fire him NOW? this was months ago. He is one of the best characters on the show and to remove him only hurts it and the rest of the cast.
I think the fact that this went public and was taken as far as it was previously is humiliating enough for Washington. I think his lesson is well-learned and firing him so far after the fact defeats any attempts he made to resolve the issue publicly and I’m sure privately.
I want to know what the rest of the cast thinks of this!
