J.K. Rowling to pen first adult novel

Now that the Harry Potter franchise has officially wrapped up, author J.K. Rowling is ready to move on to something new — she has just signed a deal to write her first novel targeted toward adult readers. Although information on the book’s plot and publication date are scarce, more details are expected to be unveiled later in the year. Rowling has clarified that despite the incredible success of Harry Potter, this next project will be very different from the Hogwarts world. She’s even teamed up with a new publisher — Little, Brown and Company — to launch this next step in her career. “The freedom to explore new territory is a gift that Harry’s success has brought me, and with that new territory it seemed a logical progression to have a new publisher,” she said. “I am delighted to have a second publishing home in Little, Brown, and a publishing team that will be a great partner in this new phase of my writing life.”
