J.K. Simmons: Miles Teller not brave about slap

By Tribute on January 7, 2015 | 1 Comment

SimmonsJ.K. Simmons and Miles Teller may have starred together in the critically acclaimed drama Whiplash but their memories of filming the scenes vary slightly. In an interview with HuffPost Live, Simmons, 59, recalled a scene where he had to slap Miles and he remembers his co-star’s reaction quiet differently than how Miles, 27, has been telling it.

Simmons claimed that when Miles recalls the story he “continues to say that he was almost cracking up with laughter, as I was slapping him. I don’t believe it. I think he’s making it up but that’s what he says!” Simmons, who was nominated for a Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role, claimed Miles’ story is false, joking, “The reality is, he was a total pussy, and he was near tears the entire time.” ~Janine Wyslobicky

I would suggest that JK was doing a “too subtle for the room,” tongue-in-cheek version of how his CHARACTER would have told the story.

Think about it: “..He was a total pussy…” is EXACTLY the kind of manipulative description professor Fletcher would use, to belittle/control/shame/goad his ambitious student, Andrew.
