Babe star James Cromwell caused quite a stir at Los Angeles International Airport during a protest against Air France. The reason is that Air France is the only major airline left that continues to ship monkeys to research sites, where they’re caged and are forced to endure cruel testing by researchers, then killed. Canadian Screen Award winner Cromwell, who tops 6’6″, locked himself inside a wooden shipping crate while holding a sign that read: “Air France: Stop shipping primates to labs.” He said at the time, “The real horror story is the pain and terror of the monkeys in Air France’s cargo holds beneath the feet of unsuspecting passengers. My friends at PETA and I are telling Air France that cruelty shouldn’t fly.” PETA revealed that Air France shipped approximately 5,500 primates to labs across the United States last year. Many species of monkeys are endangered due to excessive hunting and destruction of their natural habitats. Cromwell became a vegan and animal rights supporter after starring in the 1995 film Babe. ~Tarah Bleier
