James Franco says social media is over

Oscar host James Franco believes social media, including sites such as Facebook and Twitter, are on their way out. He told  Politico that people waste too much time on the sites. “Social media is over. Still up there. Going down. You heard it here first,” he said. Franco says he’ll devote the time he used for social media on writing: “If you want to write, make the time. We all have an hour or two a day that can be used for surfing Facebook or writing.” He went on to explain that he was frustrated by the responses he received from corporate sponsors about his Twitter account, which he launched earlier this year to promote his Oscar stint: “My thought was, ‘This is my Twitter. I can do whatever I want’. But certain companies I work with contacted me about what I was saying.”

I don’t disagree with him. I think that we will see a slow down in the Twitter & Facebook revolution. Facebook really shot themselves in the foot by adding all of these retarded zombie apps and other nonsense. If Facebook or twitter are to survive at all long term they need to branch off into other areas to keep their services alive through other means. Again though Facebook has been known to be very loose lipped with its customers data so I suspect that it will go the way of the dodo sooner rather than later.

Where I disagree with him is the concept of Social Media. I do not think that is dead. I think we will see a different purer form of Facebook emerge where people will move to instead. Almost like where Facebook was before. Straight, pure friends and networks.

With regards to the organizations which contacted him about his comments…so long as he isn’t yelling about wanting to kill babies who cares.

I bet he tweeted that to his twitter account and wrote about it on Facebook. Seriously, if he doesn’t want to be told what to write, don’t have corporate sponsors paying you to be on Twitter. Have a private account like the rest of us. Then you can write whatever you want. I hope Twitter goes away, it’s for twits but I don’t think Facebook is going anywhere anytime soon.

He should be able to say what he wants even if he’s paid by the corp.’s. As long as its decent and theres various def.’s of decent.
