Japan to premiere Iron Man 3 in 4D

Watching a 3D movie apparently isn’t enough for Japan. They’re stepping it up by premiering Iron Man 3 in 4D. In addition to watching the film, 4D effects gives the audience a “feel” of what’s happening such as seat vibrations and seat motion, gusts of wind, sprays of water, smoke, and over 1,000 scents. The 4D technology comes from a South Korean company called CJ Group. Although Iron Man 3 will be the first film to screen in Japan in 4D, the use of 4D effects isn’t new. In 2009, James Cameron’s Avatar screened in 4D in Seoul, South Korea and theaters in South America, Peru, Thailand and Mexico currently offer 4D. Last summer, the Los Angeles Times reported that in the next five years the CJ Group will be incorporating the 4D technology in 200 U.S. theaters. Iron Man 3 will premiere in 4D in Nagoya, Japan on April 26. The international release date will be on May 3. ~E. Guevarra

I remember going to Universal Studios a few years ago and I believe the Shrek film I saw was in 4D, the mist of water spraying at you and some things tickling your leg. Feels like it’s more suitable for younger kids who enjoy that whole interactive feel… sort of cheesy. But if I were to see Iron Man 3, it may give me a whole other experience. Too bad I’m not in Japan

It’s just another way to get money and swindle the rest of us – albeit in an awesome way…

Let’s go back to silent films, where it only cost us a nickel!
