Jason Statham calls for stunt Oscars

Actor Jason Statham has called for the Academy Awards to recognize the achievements of stunt coordinators. In an interview with Vanity Fair, he cited the risks involved when performing action sequences that should be commemorated at the Oscars. “I think it is an overlooked category, [considering] how much responsibility these coordinators have for some of the greatest entertainment in action movies,” he said. “I mean, all of the stunt men—these are the unsung heroes. They really are. Nobody is giving them any credibility. They’re risking their necks,” Statham added.

Statham, who performs his own stunts in action films, also took issue with “poncy actors” who perform facial reactions in front of green screens. He said: “To me, it’s like a farce. I have a real frustration with that because I know these coordinators. I train with them all the time and they are incredibly talented.” Statham will next star in Fast and Furious 7, slated for release next year. ~Raj-Kabir Birk

One would think it’s even harder to act(convincingly) in front of a green screen since there’s nothing real to play off of.

Well….. he does his own stunts, so it’s the only chance he’ll ever have of winning an Oscar.
