Jennifer Lawrence relates to Hunger Games’ Katniss

Jennifer Lawrence says she can relate to her character in the Hunger Games series due to her new-found celebrity status. Speaking to Empire magazine ahead of the November release of the next film in the The Hunger Games series, Catching Fire, she admits that while Katniss Everdeen has been raised in completely different circumstances to herself, she feels they share certain similarities. “It’s hard to say you identify with someone who’s facing life and death and war,” she said. “It’s not like, ‘Oh my god that’s, like, totally how I feel’. But there is the connection in that she doesn’t feel like just part of the town anymore. Now everyone treats her as a celebrity… Whereas she still feels like she’s part of them.” Jennifer concedes that following her recent success, people treat her like a totally different person. “I’ll go to get a coffee where I always get coffee and all of a sudden there’s this weird mood, and I’m like, ‘Come on, I still get coffee here, just say hello.'” In addition to Catching Fire, Jennifer will also appear in Serena and David O. Russell‘s American Hustle later this year, before playing Mystique in next summer’s highly anticipated X-Men: Days of Future Past. ~Raj-Kabir Birk
