Jennifer Lawrence slams weight critics – poll

By Tribute on October 11, 2012 | 27 Comments

Jennifer Lawrence isn’t ashamed of her figure, despite some people calling her overweight when she was picked to play the part of the hunger-stricken Katniss Everdeen in The Hunger Games. But the young star is now speaking out against weight-obsessed critics. In an interview with the British edition of Vogue, Lawrence criticizes the Hollywood ideal of super-skinny bodies and refers to stars who look like that as “lollipops,” adding, “I mean, if I looked like that, I wouldn’t be tired of it, obviously.” She also had something to say about the way stars are portrayed in news stories: “It’s hilarious, the way I’m supposedly the overweight one? Like, they got me at the movies yesterday and the caption read something like ‘Curvy star cannot wait to dig into tub of popcorn.’ I mean, C’mon!” [poll id=”398″]

She is one of the HOTTEST celebs out there!! I would love to meet the morons that say she’s overweight! Idiots!

  2. Angelina • October 11, 2012 @ 9:22 AM

I suppose having fat in her breasts instead of silicone makes her overweight??

And in response to the critics saying she’s not skinny enough to play hunger-stricken Katniss Everdeen from the Hunger Games… If the critics actually read the books, they’d know that Katniss hunted daily since the age of 11 or 12 for her family (which was forbidden). The book describes Katniss’ body as strong and well-built.

I have a crush on this girl, and I’m not even gay…

  3. Kevin • October 11, 2012 @ 10:31 AM

Personally I think she’s too thin.

  4. Annie • October 11, 2012 @ 10:36 AM

Yeah, I think she could gain some weight and still look great. I wish other actresses would gain a few pounds, the anorexic look is disgusting.

  5. Nobody Important • October 11, 2012 @ 11:17 AM

You all are crazy! She looks fat to me.

  6. Jason • October 11, 2012 @ 11:40 AM

She looks great. Not even close to being fat.

  7. Trevor • October 11, 2012 @ 11:43 AM

She could stand to lose a few pounds. Most women do. Have you ever seen the lineups at McDonalds of overweight ladies wanting double Big Macs? SO GROSS!

  8. I am perfect the way I am, you're approval is not required. • October 11, 2012 @ 12:38 PM

@ Nobody important, your so full of Sh$t if you think she is Fat, you obviously have a problem with your own self esteem to even say so..or your jealous of her!..
She is in no way shape of form one ounce of fat, she looks perfect to me, besides we need >>>ALL<<< shapes and SIZES in the movie industry. Having the same look for every damn character ever played would look pretty ridiculous to me!! their is nothing wrong with being petite structured or big boned!..but if you stop eating or puke to be thin You're whats wrong with society..Stop judging and start focusing on your own damn self esteem. Jennifer Lawrence is alright by me, as well as the curvy beautiful Queen Latifah. Those Critics are apparently just a bunch of snobs on the prowl cause they cant see real beauty of anything for that matter, past the end of their own nose's.

  9. Mr Magoo • October 11, 2012 @ 12:43 PM

The whole beauty thing is a double-edged sword. Celebrities don’t like being negatively judged on their looks, but make a fortune from cosmetics companies to make the average person feel they need to do something to look better.

It’s like the older actresses that criticize hollywood for not have roles for them in their later years, but had no problem taking roles away from older women when they were young.

  10. Elise • October 11, 2012 @ 1:32 PM

Seriously? I’d kill for a body like that! She looks amazing!
Why do we (society) let a few clearly menatlly ill individuals in the media/fashion industry dictate to us how we are to look, even if it means being unhealthy? Get some counselling, people!

  11. Ken • October 11, 2012 @ 1:34 PM

OMG!!! The girl is thin!!! What in hell is wrong with people??? Any man who wants a woman thinner than her has some serious psychiatric issues, and so do women who want to be any thinner than her! Jennifer, you can’t please everyone, so just make sure you’re pleased with yourself!

  12. Kris • October 11, 2012 @ 1:39 PM

I’m with Elise on this one; I’d kill for a body like that, too. She looks fantastic and healthy!

  13. Karen • October 11, 2012 @ 2:07 PM

She looks fantastic, and is much closer to a “normal” weight than these anorexic-looking Hollywood types. Just watched “Hunger Games” again last night. Fat??? No way – that tiny waist is something more of us should wish for. And Angelina above nailed it with the comment “And in response to the critics saying she’s not skinny enough to play hunger-stricken Katniss Everdeen from the Hunger Games… If the critics actually read the books, they’d know that Katniss hunted daily since the age of 11 or 12 for her family (which was forbidden). The book describes Katniss’ body as strong and well-built.”

  14. Diana • October 11, 2012 @ 2:30 PM

She looks great!,the critics are as usual wrong again!

  15. Jax • October 11, 2012 @ 2:36 PM

It’s a damn shame with how women are portrayed in Hollywood! Also, models who are so skinny they can barely walk. That is not healthy at all. The skinny as a rail and boney look is so ugly, it’s not even funny. Who really wants to look like they’d die for a piece of scrap to eat? Add to that the tractor tire lips some get, disgusting!!

  16. chris • October 11, 2012 @ 2:40 PM

Obbsurd. I find her very sexy. Her and scarlett johanssen are my top picks.

It seems like this whole skinny as a bone rack obsession is put on by females themselfs. I sware to god, there is not a man out there who would pick a girl who is skin and bones over a girl with some sexy shape to her. Its sexy.

  17. chris • October 11, 2012 @ 3:07 PM

I’m not voting. Hopefully, she’s not waiting by the computer dying to know the results.

  18. Dee55 • October 11, 2012 @ 4:42 PM

She looks lovely and natural…. a refreshing change from the skinny, silicone implanted, botoxed and overly made up starlets that we see so often.

  19. vertically challenged • October 11, 2012 @ 4:45 PM

OH MY GOD the girl has hips! She has womanly curves, not the figure of a 12 year old boy, thank the lord. She’s gorgeous, looks healthy and is a great role model for girls. Obviously she’s more comfortable with herself then most hollywood stars and doesn’t care what others have to say about her and good for her!

On top of that, she’s an incredibly talented actress 🙂

  20. Eve • October 11, 2012 @ 5:18 PM

People are just retarded… They are all jealous.

  21. Garry • October 11, 2012 @ 6:39 PM

she and scarlett johanssen has always been my types of girls their bodies totally do it for me. Slap a J-lo butt on her and Hollywood can banish her to my arms if they want. On a side note its is true the rail thin look is unhealthy but lets not get carried away with piling the pounds on is ok. Its not, America has a big problem with obesity so men or women who are truly over weight (let ur doc measure ur BMI not a celebrity mag)u need to pay attention to ur weight also not solely because of image issues but because of ur health.

  22. Lloyd • October 11, 2012 @ 8:50 PM

She is absolutely stunning. No one should be stick thin, it’s unattractive and just looks unhealthy. One example of a beautiful woman who ruined herself is Angelina Jolie. She used to be irresistible but then lost a lot of weight for no reason and started looking bad. Look at the transition from Tomb Raider to Wanted. It’s astonishing. No woman should feel compelled to lose weight to feel attractive. If it’s for health purposes, more power to you, but otherwise don’t potentially harm yourself thinking you need to look a certain way.

  23. Suneagle • October 12, 2012 @ 8:28 AM

That was the best thing about that movie to be honest. The shaky shaky yay I feel like a milk shake shaky camera work ruined the movie for me. But honestly this girl is very cute and it’s great that she has a figure I’m sorry everyone should take note these are real woman with a real physic “Eat some pasta already!!” just like Megan Fox she’s hot as hell in transformers but anorexia beyond in all her other movies sorry that’s ugly to me. The film industry is so mechanical and so physical minded that they lost touch how to find real actors that can act instead they look for actors that have a six pack. Whatever. BS!! If anyone wants to know what real acting not pretending is then you must go see this guy http://www.methodacting.ca/ that’s where I’ve learned and where many other actors that are on point have learned 🙂 Jen don’t let these stupid tabloids rent space in your head your fun your HOT and you a great person and a great actor with real emotion. Keep it up 🙂

  24. C-Dub • October 12, 2012 @ 10:40 AM

Someone finally mentioned ‘healthy’..Exactly right! She looks like she is perfect. Who wants a piles of bones next to them at night? She is super cute and fantastic body.

I hope since she read something about herself before that she somehow reads these comments. Well, the positive ones anyway. I think some people just write nasty ones to get our goat.

Jennifer, you just keep doing your thing, you are skyrocketing and it’s funny how the media is calling you fat, when it seems people want to see anything you are in, so clearly nobody is listening to that crap. The media will not sabotage your career.

  25. nadine • October 12, 2012 @ 10:41 AM

she’s still thinner than the average person.

  26. Jules • October 12, 2012 @ 11:26 AM

Jennifer Lawrence is not only gorgeous (with quite possibly THE most beautiful figure in Hollywood) but Lawrence is also an incredibly talented actress. Jennifer is my #1 girl crush.

  27. RC • October 12, 2012 @ 9:00 PM

Are you freaking kidding me? If she’s overweight and needs to lose a few pounds, then everyone else should just give up. There’s no point in even trying to look good because obviously nothing is going to ever satisfy anyone…
