Jennifer Lawrence suffered from social anxiety

In a recent interview with French magazine Madame Figaro, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire star Jennifer Lawrence opened up about her struggle with social anxiety as a child. She told the magazine, “My nickname was ‘Nitro,’ as in nitroglycerin. I was hyperactive, curious about everything. When my mother told me about my childhood, she always told me there was like a light in me, a spark that inspired me constantly. When I entered school, the light went out. We never knew what it was, a kind of social anxiety. But I had friends.” They tried everything to help Jennifer overcome her anxiety, even going to therapy, but nothing worked. The one thing that no one expected to help, was acting. “One day, I begged my parents to take me to a casting, we went to New York, and that’s where I started acting. Just on stage, my mother saw the change that was taking place in me. She saw my anxieties disappear. She found her daughter, the one who had this light and joy before school.” Not only did her anxieties disappear, but Jennifer had also found her passion. Turning her fears into award winning performances, Jennifer has starred in hit movies including The Hunger Games, X-Men: First Class and Silver Linings Playbook, which earned her an Oscar for Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role. ~Brie Davis
