Jimmy Olsen a girl in new Superman movie?

By Alexandra Heilbron on January 24, 2013 | 25 Comments

It looks like Jimmy Olsen, Clark Kent’s colleague at the Daily Planet newspaper, has turned into a girl for the new Superman movie, Man of Steel. Starring Henry Cavill as Superman and Russell Crowe as Jor-El, the movie lists a Jenny Olsen in the credits at IMDb, played by a beautiful young newcomer named Rebecca Buller (pictured at left). Jenny can be seen in the trailer, running down a street with Laurence Fishburne, who plays newspaper Editor-in-Chief Perry White. What do you think of this gender-bending casting? Should they have hired an actor or is it about time parts were rewritten so more actresses could get jobs? Tell us below:[poll id=”423″]

I think it’s fine but I have a feeling that most of the hardcore comic fans (i am a comic reader myself but I want to see how this pans out) won’t like it.

although I’d like to see how it works with having both her and Lois in the office. Maybe they’ll both have feelings for Clark or something.

The things we hate most about comic book adaptations is that they change things that don’t need to change! You can add a new female character but why change Jimmy????

I’ve seen several movies where a woman is played by a man in drag and I’m like what? It’s not fooling anyone. At least they’re not calling her Jimmy and dressing her up like a guy. And yeah, she’s kinda gorgeous. Nice change from a goofy Jimmy.

Actually, there was a Superman comic where the Daily Planet’s cub reporter went undercover as a girl, so maybe they’re borrowing from that storyline.

Jimmy Olsen as a GIRL???!!! What kind of mental defective would make a decision that goes so far against canon it’s insane???!!! What have Zack Snyder, David S. Goyer, and Christopher Nolan been smoking???!!!

They’re probably smoking all of their cash Charles M, from the stockpiles they have and which you’ll be contributing to in about – oh – 4 months time or so?

If THAT’s the new Jimmy Olsen, he’s a heck of a lot sexier than the new Lois Lane!

  10. C-Dub • January 24, 2013 @ 2:21 PM

    I totally agree with Snepts.
But it’s a lesser character (Jenny Olsen maybe lol) so I will see how it pans out. I agree the movies should stick to the comics, which is that created the fantasy world in the first place. The only changes should be better stories.

horrible ,they should stick to the comics and books ,i got a feeling it will be a total flop

it is from the comics from the earth one storyline back in the 70’s where she was called jenny olsen besides if they can kill jimmy in smallville ( he was killed by doomsday) it proves you dont have to follow a certain path of a storyline

Sorry, but there are more than sufficient number of strong female characters that are already part of Superman’s life in comics.
It’s a joke if Jimmy Olsen is gender-changed, just like dropping Clark Kent’s marriage to Lois Lane in favour of his dating Wonder Woman in the new 52 is

  15. Suneagle • January 24, 2013 @ 10:40 PM

Man they already have a script. The comic books the tv cartoons and now you want to still reinvent the wheel? Seriously? Jimmy was a guy not a girl but hey she’s hot lol!

  16. steve c • January 24, 2013 @ 10:45 PM

does jimmy have a sister by any chance?

  17. Brittnee • January 25, 2013 @ 11:43 AM

I love Jimmy Olsen, but I think having a girl in the film could be a great touch. Or better yet, why not keep Jimmy and add Jenny Olsen too. They could be siblings, working together at the DP…that could get interesting!!

  18. Sparky • January 25, 2013 @ 6:52 PM

The characters sex is not pivotal in the story so it being male or female does not matter. I hope she just does a good job.

  19. Sparky • January 25, 2013 @ 6:53 PM

I disagree with Brittnee, for Jimmy and Jenny to DP would be incestous and gross!

  20. mitch • January 25, 2013 @ 10:26 PM

    oes this mean Lewis Lane?

  21. Gwen • January 26, 2013 @ 2:34 PM

Don’t mess with tradition. Will Superman become female, gay or transgender next? I think not. The parts were originally written that way for a reason and should stay that way.

To reduce Tanger’s overall floating rate exposure as a percentage of total outstanding debt, we entered into interest rate swap agreements that locked the rate on the $150 million Deer Park mortgage on October 28th of 2013. As a result, the effective interest rate for the Deer Park mortgage will be fixed at 2.8% through August of 2018.
