Joan Rivers’ doctor took selfie during operation

Joan Rivers’ personal doctor allegedly took a selfie during the fatal throat operation, according to a report from CNN. An anonymous source connected to the investigation said the doctor, who was not identified in the report, took the selfie while Joan was in the room under general anesthetic. The comedienne was at Yorkville Endoscopy center, where gastroenterologist Dr. Lawrence Cohen performed a scheduled endoscopy to help diagnose the cause of a sore throat. When the endoscopy was completed, a biopsy was performed by the other doctor without Joan’s consent, according to a source to CNN.

TMZ reports that Dr. Gwen Korovin, pictured here in a Facebook photo, was the doctor who was not named. The site revealed Korovin, who has treated some of  the biggest celebrities in the world, was not authorized to practice medicine at the center. Investigators believe Joan’s vocal cords began to swell during biopsy, cutting off the flow of oxygen, which caused her to have a heart attack. She was rushed to Mount Sinai Hospital in New York, where she passed away. Neither doctor has been accused of wrongdoing by investigators and the clinic refuses to respond to the allegations due to federal privacy law.
