Joaquin Phoenix admits he’s not engaged

Inherent Vice actor Joaquin Phoenix, 40, was up to his usual tricks on The Late Show with David Letterman. The Golden Globe-winning actor appeared on the show last Monday and revealed to the host that he was set to marry his yoga instructor. He described a hilarious yoga transaction between the two of them where he was put into a “comprising and vulnerable position” called “harnessing of the hog.” Following this crazy story, Joaquin revealed, “I think she’s the one. I proposed to her and she said yes. If everything works out… so far, so good.”

However, today on Good Morning America Joaquin revealed that he had in fact made the entire story up. He explained that he only wanted to “spice up his ‘story’ a little bit” to seem more interesting. He said, “I think my life’s so boring, and it seemed like something exciting to talk about, and I wanted the audience to like me. They really like people getting married.” He even said, “I can get engaged again, if you like.” The ruse seemed to work because the audience was laughing right alongside him.

The actor’s publicist confirmed it was all a joke to the Independent. He said, “Joaquin has an extraordinary and spontaneous sense of humor but it is not true.” ~Janine Wyslobicky
