Joe Wright favorite to direct Fifty Shades of Grey

Joe WrightDirector Joe Wright is reportedly deemed top choice to direct Fifty Shades of Grey, as the hunt for the perfect cast and crew continues. Other directors, including Patty Jenkins, Bill Condon, and Bennet Miller, have been considered and Gus Van Sant has even shot a test sex scene with actor Alex Pettyfer, hoping to secure the job.

However, sources close to the production told Variety Wright is “their man.” The Anna Karenina director has been affiliated with Focus Features and Universal – the studio with movie rights to the Fifty Shades of Grey book series – for a long time and has made several movies with them. Confirmed contributors to the film’s production include producers Michael De Luca and Dana Brunetti, as well as British screenwriter Kelly Marcel.

Numerous actors have been considered for the lead characters Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele, including Ian Somerhalder, Ryan Gosling, Channing Tatum, Emma Watson, Mila Kunis and Amanda Seyfried. Although author EL James mentioned in February that they’re still a long way from casting, Universal chairman Adam Fogelson has hopes for the film to hit theaters in summer 2014. Dunno about this. Joe is great at cinematography and does visually stunning movies. Kiera Knightly is his muse (he has said in many interviews) so is he going to try to squeeze her into this?
