Johnny Depp offends with Christmas song

By Alexandra Heilbron on December 6, 2011 | 13 Comments

Johnny Depp has Christians up in arms after he contributed vocals to the song “Jesus Stag Night Club” by the British band Babybird, whose comeback he helped finance. The song portrays Jesus as an alcoholic party animal who steals cars and frequents lap-dancing clubs. Christian Coalition spokesperson Lee Douglas told British newspaper the Daily Star that the song is “blasphemy,” adding “I’m sure he thinks he’s being very funny but he’s simply a disgrace. One day, Johnny Depp and his cronies will face the judgment of our Lord and they will burn in hell for this filth.” Focus on the Family organization was similarly outraged, saying, “We are sickened by Mr. Depp’s behavior. Why did he need to record this song? It is a slap in the face to Christians all over the world.” Depp is apparently “not concerned” about the controversy, while Babybird frontman Stephen Jones told the paper: “Some people have no sense of humor.”

hmmmm….i’m Christian, never heard the song or heard of the group, it sure sounds like Mr. Douglas hopes he “burns in hell”….not very Christian wishes at all.

Both the song and the spokesperson’s comments seem of bad taste to me.

yes, but make a song about ramadan or muslims and then we’ll see how brave you are. christians don’t threaten death or burn buildings when Jesus is mocked.

and “no sense of humour”? whatever, when its FUNNY, then we’ll laugh.

also, christian coalition is branding the rest of christians in a bad name. Jesus loves and forgives. He doesn’t send people to hell for making a stupid song. what moralism.

At least when you offend a Christian they don’t try to blow you up.

Everyone is going to burn in hell according to extremists. Might as well have some fun if that is the case!

The only reason he picked on Christianity and not Muslim is because he knows he can get away with it with Christians. But he would never try that with the Muslims as Johnny Boy knows he would never be forgiven and likely not live long enough to offer an apology either.
