Johnny Depp to play Pancho Villa

Director Emir Kusturica is hoping to work again with Johnny Depp. The two worked together in 1993 on the film Arizona Dream. According to Variety, Kusturica is currently negotiating to have Depp play the legendary Pancho Villa. Pancho Villa was an outlaw turned general during the Mexican revolution and became a Robin Hood figure to the poor. Kusturica, who will direct, also co-wrote the screenplay for Seven Friends of Pancho Villa and the Woman With Six Fingers with his longtime collaborator, Gordan Mihic. Filming is expected to take place in Mexico, but not before 2011 due to Depp’s already full project schedule. Salma Hayek is also in talks to star in the film, which will be shot in Spanish. ~Patricia Gougeon
