After much speculation in the media and amongst fans, Warner Bros. and director Chris Nolan have finally announced what role Joseph Gordon-Levitt is going to play in the new Batman movie, entitled The Dark Knight Rises. He’ll portray John Blake, a Gotham City beat cop assigned to special duty under the command of Commissioner Gordon. John Blake is apparently a character that was never featured in the comics. Also announced was the casting of Oscar-winning actress Marion Cotillard as Miranda Tate, a Wayne Enterprises board member eager to help a still-grieving Bruce Wayne resume his father’s philanthropic endeavors. Reprising their roles from the earlier films are Christian Bale as Bruce Wayne/Batman, Gary Oldman as Commissioner Jim Gordon, Morgan Freeman as Lucius Fox and Nestor Carbonell as Gotham Mayor Anthony Garcia. Other new cast members include Anne Hathaway as Catwoman and Tom Hardy as the villain, Bane. The Dark Knight Rises is set for release on July 20, 2012.
