Justin Bieber hopes Anne Frank “would have been a Belieber”

Teen singer Justin Bieber  is receiving a firestorm of online criticism after comments he left in the guest book of the historical Anne Frank House went public. “Truly inspiring to be able to come here. Anne was a great girl. Hopefully she would have been a belieber,”  the singer wrote after touring the Amsterdam museum, where a young Anne Frank lived in hiding from the Nazis during the Second World War. While many have weighed in on Bieber‘s comments online, the Anne Frank House has released a statement praising the Canadian singer. “The Anne Frank House was pleased to welcome Justin Bieber to the Anne Frank House last Friday. We think it is very positive that he took the time and effort to visit our museum. He was very interested in the story of Anne Frank and stayed for over an hour. We hope that his visit will inspire his fans to learn more about her life and hopefully read the diary.” This is just the latest of bizarre incidents involving the pop star – in recent weeks 19-year-old Bieber has cancelled tour dates, had his pet monkey seized by German custom officials, allegedly spat on a neighbor and gave an illegal tattoo. ~Lisa Perri
