Kanye West threatens to boycott 2017 Grammys

Kanye West is at it again and this time, his latest rant is championing Frank Ocean.

Frank Ocean’s two albums, Blonde and Endless, weren’t submitted for the Grammys before the deadline on September 30. Hence, his albums have been deemed ineligible for consideration. Kanye isn’t pleased with this and announced that he would skip the Grammys if Frank isn’t nominated.

He took the stage while on his Saint Pablo Tour in Oakland, California and started by pointing out how the Grammys schemed to have Lady Gaga nominated so that she could perform at the Grammys.

“So, I don’t know if any of y’all remember. I was supposed to go on a tour with Gaga, like about six, seven years ago—a while back. I remember, that it was something…She wasn’t nominated for Best New Artist, right? But they wanted her to perform at the show; they wanted her to open, right? So, the Grammys secretly changed something about the nominations in order to nominate her—in order for her to perform in the show.”

He continued: “I’m saying this to y’all, because a lot of people, you know, they try to make a scene, like, ‘I’m so self-centered.’ But the album I listened to the most this year is Frank Ocean’s album. And I will tell you this right now: If his album’s not nominated in no categories, I’m not showing up to the Grammys.”

“As artists, we’ve got to come together to fight the bullshit they been throwing us with. All we need is a fair shot, you know what I’m saying? Let the album lose, let whoever win or lose.”

This isn’t the first time Kanye is showing his support for Frank. When Blonde was released in August, Kanye tweeted radio stations to play his song “at least 10 times a day” in order to “make the world better.”

The Grammy nominations will be revealed on December 8.
