Kate Holmes talks about the “inappropriate” candy incident

By Alexandra Heilbron on April 1, 2011 | 9 Comments

Katie Holmes revealed she was shocked when her daughter Suri picked up candy that was meant for adults at an ice cream parlor. She told talk show host Ellen DeGeneres on the episode that airs today (April 1): “Recently, I took her to get ice cream in New York at this place called Serendipity that we go to all the time. It’s for kids.” Katie went on to tell how Suri reached out and picked up a box of gummies shaped like male genitalia. Spelling out the word, an embarrassed Katie recalled: “P-e-n-i-s gummies. I said, ‘Oh wow those aren’t Swedish Fish!’ They are called p-e-n-i-s gummies and they look like it. She was holding the box and I was like, ‘OK, wow, we don’t need that right now.'” Katie didn’t want to make too big a deal of it, because she was hoping Suri wouldn’t ask too many questions about why she couldn’t have the candy. She says, “I thought if I said, ‘Put that back!’ then she’s going to say, ‘What is this?’ and I really didn’t want to have that conversation.” At any rate, the young mother was surprised a family-orientated establishment would sell such a lewd product, saying, “I was like, ‘Why are they selling these here? This [place] is for kids.’ “

Good question…why is an establishment designed for children selling penis shaped candy? Who owns/manages this place? This needs an investigation as to the practices used to purchase stock…maybe someone is a bit of a pedofile and this is a way to lure?

She’s a cute kid. It must be hard when people are always trying to take photos of you and interpreting it how they want.

The restaurant should apologize and remove them if it’s a place for kids. That’s really inappropriate to have them sitting on a shelf with candy for kids in an ice cream parlour.

Funny the candy shop got a plug, then got it taken away because of the perverted Candy. Or maybe Tom said “hey Suri, don’t forget to get something for Daddy. You know what I like…” Instinctively she grab the exact candy daddy sucks on.

Any rate now that store has been tarnished by everyone knowing the Cruises shop there…I mean by selling that type of candy at a kids store.

My viewpoint is exactly what her Mom’s is: how on this Earth could that type of thing be sold at a ice cream place For Children???!! They’ve got to stop selling it. ALL Mom’s and Mom’s to be – should boycot it untill the owners stop selling it!

hmmm on April 1, 2011 11:35 AM i think katies afraid of what the press might do if suri walks on her own, or of what strangers might do. there are a lot of people threatening children of celebs. id be scared too if it were my baby and i was famous.

Wilma on April 1, 2011 9:44 PM i agree, and its nice to see someone that considers what the person talked about may be feeling.

i agree rita and those of you that said this shouldnt have been in this type of store.

those of you that STILL feel the need to bash tom when he isnt even mentioned in this article, shame on you, everyone has the right to life without being bashed for no reason. seriously, we are supposed to be adults here.

did any of you see the magazine that came out after this happened? saying katie woke suri up at 1am to feed her dinner, that suri is living in a twisted world filled with x rated candy? that was the biggest load of crap ive ever saw, i actually laughed when i saw the cover, until i considered how that must make katie, as a mother, feel. why do people think its ok to trash someones way of raising their child? everyone raises their child the way they choose to, as long as theres no physical harm or negligence its really not a big flipping deal. this poor girl must be so upset.
