Kate Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge, gave birth to a boy today, July 22 at 4:24 p.m. local time in Britain. The new prince weighed in at 8 pounds, 6 ounces, and was born in the Lindo Wing at St. Mary’s Hospital in London. The Royal baby is third in line to the British throne, after his grandfather, Prince Charles, and his father, Prince William, who was by his wife’s side the entire time she was in labor. The Queen was officially the first person to be given the news, and afterwards, a notice giving details about the baby was signed by the Queen’s former gynecologist Marcus Setchell. It left St. Mary’s Hospital in London for Buckingham Palace, where it was placed on an easel in the palace’s court. William’s birth was also announced there, just over 31 years ago on June 21, 1982. The baby is the Queen’s third great-grandchild. The British monarchy has released a statement that reads: “The names of the baby will be announced in due course.”
