Kate Winslet saves elderly woman from fire

Kate Winslet, 35, is being called a hero after she carried Richard Branson’s elderly mother out of a fire during Tropical Storm Irene yesterday. The actress was one of a group of 20 people, including her 10-year-old daughter Mia and seven-year-old son Joe, staying at Branson’s Caribbean home when it was struck by lightning. Branson, who was with his wife and son in another building 100 yards away from the main house, blogged his thanks to Winslet, saying: “We had a tropical storm with winds up to 90mph. A big lightning storm came around 4am and hit the house. My son Sam and nephew Jack rushed to the house and helped get everyone out and many thanks to Kate Winslet for helping to carry my 90 year old mum out of the main house to safety – she was wondering when a Director was going to shout CUT!” He added that the house was destroyed but everyone was safe and unharmed.
